suzuki swift gti.

100hp stock, around 80 at the wheels, and in stock form itll do 100ks in second gear, at an ear melting 7000rpm.

If youre worried about looking like an idiot in one dont, all your mates wont be laughing when you get into second gear and fly past them in their falcodores etc. Seriously they actually handle exceptionally well. Mine hangs on like crazy, it handles in my opinion better than my 1600, and its FWD!!! All i have is stiff (bone-jarring) springs and koni shocks, and its amazing through the twissties.

Ive been 160 with 2000 revs left to go aswell. They are seriously fast.

Spare parts are very easy to get a holdd of, theres several dedicated companies manufacturing them, and on the suzuki forums theres always plenty of guys selling stuff.

Tare weight of 780kgs + 100 hp one happy p plater!!!

got figures for a 200b?

edit: fuel economy figures would also be important with a limited cash flow. My k11 uses 6.3L/100km of regular unleaded, being thrashed around town.

I'd take either over a 200b. But that logic is flawed. You think that all small newish fwd cars are crap. By that logic a gemini in comparable to a datsun, and I daresay you should be shot for that
I've driven both an excel and a matiz.

Both didn't even compare to the 200B.
The 200B has more power, better handling, better braking, was more comfortable, capable of towing, and better looking.

I'm not keen on being told my car looks crap from someone with a piece of alloy with some shonky holes cut in it for some autometer gauges that belong in a VN for a dash.

And I've driven a gemini therefore datsuns are crap. Sounds a bit stupid doesnt it?

back on topic fellas,

Well i do agree with gary510 (page 1) that a ke70 is the best bang for your buck..
jump onto ke70.com, rollaclub.com and ae86drivingclub.com....
lots of good ke70/ae71 info and lots of mods can be done

also if you want to jump into the nissan boat cheaply go for a 910 bluebird.
i saw one on ebay the other day for $300 buy it now. didnt look overly bad either

Peugeot 205 GTI has a pretty good power-to-weight ratio. Something small and light will always be fun. My friend had a Mazda 332, '86ish model and also an ED XR6 with some work done. He think he had more fun in his Mazda, he just didin't want to be seen in it.

I think anything that is fairly light that handles well is a fun car to drive, never been a fan of driving large, heavier cars, sure some of them go faster in a straight line, but throwing a car through corners, or even chicanes designed to slow you down, is far more fun, in my opinion.

And whilst I understand that it is cool to not like 200Bs, even in standard form they are, whilst quite slow, still lots of fun to cruise around in and throw into corners.

i agree, everyone at my work have there vn commodores and make jokes about my 180b, but what do they really have? a heavy metal box with a oversized fuel munching engine. and lose control through every corner trying to keep up even with my stock datsun ;)

Okay then. If I was to use a weak analogy to justify my opinion, I'd say that comparing a micra to either an Excel or Matiz works because it's like listening to Britney Spears and then saying Lady Gaga sucks. You've arrived at the correct conclusion via a somewhat complicated route.

And I'm a uni student who delivers pizza for s**t's sake, I can barely afford to run my car, let alone modify it.

At least you'd probably mod yr car yrself and not buy it all modded with fully sick SR20 innit, then just chuck some seats in it and think you've done the whole car yrself. And at least you've never owned a 120y or a GTI Barina, the latter latter of which you need baggy pants, a XXXXX Large t-shirt and sideways cap just to drive.

That's like at my old work, all the coqheads kept telling me to stick a V8 in my 180b and be done with it. Only until i took a few of the more vocal ones for a drive to the lunch shop. Had it doing snakey's lock to lock the whole way down the road with them shitting their pants. They walked back to work and said they'd never get in a car with me again and never did comment on my sh*t box 180b again :)

Depending on how limited yr cash flow is how about a Mazda MX6 or an early Honda Civic? Both very capable cars and with a few suspension mods they are awesome.

Holy sh*t have a whinge people..

Ke70/ AE71's can be cheap.
If you find one not for sale by a 'kesev' enthusiast...
Due to all the takumi lovers that cant afford a ae86 sprinter, and thanks to the ke70 sharing the same basic chassis as them, prices of ke70's have jumped up a heap.
Especially AE71's.

So probably not so cheap first car.

Im still sticking with the r31 and bluebird, not biased to due to currently having one of each as dailys here, its just a logical upgrade.

For years I daily drove stanza's, still plenty in the wreckers, could get a decent one for bugger all...
Hard to find now, esp early models..
