hey, got pulled over for the second time since i brought my new daily drive a R33 skyline witch i have had for three months. small mods nothing over the top. first time i was pulled over everything was fine except pod filter witch i was fined for. i have since had it changed back and although i felt slightly hard done by due to oning the car for less than to weeks and having no other defects i took in on the chin and was as polite as humanly possible. on the weekend i was pulled over for a breath test past was told i could go by the officer, then out of nowhere comes this young female cop who decides to go over the whole car. do you have a engineers certificate she says. no i reply i don't think it needs one plark covers the rim size, ground clearance is fie no after market pod or bov. she makes me wait 20mins then tells me i have a bad attitude and im being fined for a larger inter cooler. fine will be sent in the mail at which point she tells me to go. now my question is at what point dose a inter-cooler incur a fine is she blowing hot air out her ass or do i have a problem and now need to get the car engineered???? any help would be awesome thanks

best to check with your rta mate

in some states there is only one intake modification allowed

in others there is no issue pending any removal of the car's original structural integrity.

problem is you have a skyline - especially an r33

nowdays the r33 is what was in earlier decades were vn commodores and vs lexens - they have a bad rap and awful stigma attached. media doesn't help with the Hoon thing but thats something different all together.

i've enen been known so mumble away behind the wheel "Bloody skylines"

call the relevant authorities - stay clear of heresay on the net

and best of luck

thanks for the reply. stigma or not regardless of what you drive you should not be categorised as a hoon. as i see it its not illegal to own and drive a performance imported car but it is legal to be harassed. i live on the south coast there are only 2 skylines in the town ( batemans bay) and due to the influx of tourist over the long weekend they send a whole lot of Sydney police down with an agenda and that is as i can only astatine to harass... not happy

take it to court, and piss the r33 off.

Imports for a daily is not a good idea.

I agree when I had my S13 6 years ago I had nothing but trouble and that was 6 years ago. Would hate to even think about driving a late Nissan import these days. God damn Nanny State!

Yeah a lot of the people who used to drive commodores now drive imports and if my mates are anything to go by these are the dickheads who give everyone else a bad name.

The Joys of owning an R33. Take it to sau. They have more experience with being pulled over than your average Datsun owner.

D!ck heads drive every type of car on the road. a hoon just has the power needed to make serious smoke, in my humbly opinion i am neither. i should be able to enjoy my daily drive while i wait to make enough money to finish my 1600 dream.I'm just after the facts do i need to get the R33 engineered or is this a case of overzealous policing? what kind of $ will it take to rectify the problem anyone have an idea?R33 stays!!!!!

As stated earlier on, check with your local rta, vicroads or whatever.

Anything that changes the properties of the frontal impact zone of a car is defectable including bodykits, carbon fibre bonnets, fishing rod holders, rocket launchers etc. Nearly anything that is a non standard part should be engineered even roof racks.
If any holes where cut in the body or bumper these need to be reinforced and engineered as well as any brackets holding on the cooler.
It's a big grey area, if they want to defect you they will always find something, ive heard stories from people working at the RTA of cars being defected for loose floor mats and brake fluid resivours not being filled to the maximum mark.
The police only have to believe that a fault exists on your car they don't have to prove it.

Agreed.
Its getting abit out of hand.
Just get ready for this new hoon taskforce crap that will be introduced soon..
When it gets to the point where its absolute bullcrap regarding driving certain makes and models of cars, im buying a holden for a daily.
VE GTS with a big single turbo, oh yeah!

It's a bit rediculous.

I'm glad i've got my 200B to daily during times of peak cop activity (ie now, school holidays).

I've only been pinged once a 'random' test where they were obviously after defects and they ended up getting me for a tiny fray in my seatbelt.

Stupid, usually it's ok though, i've taken my Silvia through heaps of roadside breath tests and stuff because on that day they aren't defect hunting.
