James Elliott from Car Club RMIT (
www.ccrmit.com), and just happen so to also be the officials coordinator for the 2010 George Derrick Memorial Rally, which forms a round of the Victorian Rally Championship, and the Victorian Club Rally Series. This event is based from Avoca, northwest of Melbourne, and takes place on the 17th July. The event will see the full range of Victorian rally crews contest over 100kms of special stage rallying, on fully closed forest & shire roads.
The event is expected to have entries from crews with the latest modern cars, right through to the good old classics, with a mix of everything in between.
Like all motor sport events, we heavily rely on our volunteers, and with the event being a dual round (two championships/series) I would like to invite any members of your club that would be interested in assisting us in our officials requirements, by manning one of our road closure positions, or assisting at a control. No previous rallying experience is required, and we welcome volunteers of all levels and experience.
All officials should be well and truly out of the forest and on there way home (or enjoying the post event activities) before 11.30pm, and in fact much earlier (but that depends on how many crews enter!!). More details on meet times & locations can be obtained by a quick phone call or email back to me.
This years event has great support from the Pyrenees Shire, Wimmera Hills Winery, Sallys Paddock (Redbank Winery) and Batronic, which has allowed us to give some extra special "extras" to all officials in appreciation of their time & travel, allowing our states rally crews to race in the forest.
If you could please forward onto any mailing groups from within your club, or post on a club forum it would be greatly appreciated.
Please feel free to pass on my details to anyone who may be interested, or has any questions or further enquires.
Thanks,
James Elliott
