Yes, I got the Datsun that actually has brakes, a larger engine, a heater, a radio, and costs less. Oh, and the factory seats are actually comfortable.

I'm starting to think the only reasons you say the 1600 looks better are:

1. I have a 200B.
2. Your cars cost 4x more in similar condition.
3. You have to spend more money after the initial purchase to get a 1600 up to the same spec as a 200B.

I've said it many times, no one has been able to justify to my satisfaction what it is about the 200B they don't like. I think you all have a massive mental block towards 200Bs that you can't actually explain.

I don't like live axle suspension.

Plenty of other datsuns came with live axle suspension. And it is still possible to find IRS 200Bs.

I dont like the shape. Yes they came out with bigger engines and brakes but that is because they are a bigger car. 1600s cost more because there in demand. 200bs are not in demand. You may spend more but at the end of the day they are worth more. What did the 200b acheive in its days. Nothing that i can remember

They make good washing machines and tek screws out of 200b's

They really are the pigs of Datsun's.They look horrid, handle like junk and have never been proven on the track. Hence a bad product from Nissan that won't die and go away. :bringit:

I refer you to the times for the VCRS class in the George Derrick rally in Avoca from a few weeks ago...

O/R Crew Car POINTS
1 Simon Ellis/Ian Ellis Subaru Legacy RS 1:01:39
2 Steve Porter/Leigh Garrioch Mazda RX7 1:04:33
3 Aaron Bowering/Nathan Lowe Datsun 200B 1:05:36
4 Cameron Jay/Eddie Corrales Ford Escort Mk 2 1:05:50
5 Campbell Eastwood/Darren Miller Datsun Stanza 1:05:56
6 Daryl King/Chris Barrett Toyota Corolla 1:06:03
7 Rowan Woollard/Phil Hurle(J) Datsun 1600 1:06:04
8 Simon Boyer/Simon Thompson Datsun 1600 1:06:09
9 Grant Walker(#)/Craig Thomas(#) Ford Escort RS1800 1:07:03
10 Russell Woollard/James Thompson Datsun Bluebird 1:07:49

I've only included the first 10 places, but, if you look at what came 3rd... It was ahead of a lot of 1600's as well.

So yeah, I'd say they are proven in rally at least.

It was only the best-selling car in its class, and the most fuel-economical in 1978.

Most of that is personal opinion. Have you actually driven a 200B, or just making an assumption because they're not a 1600? I've seen plenty of other Datsuns made to look worse than any 200B could.

Based on this, it looks like I own two excellent cars.

And looking at most of the placings there, I'd say that bent-rear-axle-syndrome (IRS) isn't all that it is hyped up to be.

James May has made a point and backed up his claim with evidence.

Unlike you.

Furthermore proving our point that 200B owners are more educated, and more capable of proper, well-thought-through, debates
