Lurch,

OZDAT is a .com domain and is therefore protected under the Fifth US Amendment in their Constitution - free speech. The website owner cannot be held accountable for what others write on this site.

if it were a .com.au site, then we woudl be subject to Australian law which states "an author or website owner is entirely responsible for it's content" - an open door for litigation.

Anyways, that number 11 i laid across the huntriss road lights was a ripper, smoke everywhere. i had a on ozdat sticker on the back too.

Ummmm... no

What matters in determining which legal jurisdiction is applicable is:

a) Where the web server is located

b) Where the person viewing the website is located.

The domain name TLD has absolutely nothing to do with it.

It is not clear how that website supports your position Pro. Turbovan is on the money I am afraid.

In which case it would be the author, the forum member, that is responsible for his comments.

Not sure about the use of the word 'hoon' here seeing that its become a catch word for any driver that someone somewhere finds objectionable or dangerous. It is also associated with legislation that some, including me, find unjust and excessive.

Reckless driving or something similar would cover it, is non inflammatory and does not pander to police and political discrimination and scapegoating.

I believe the laws are against "hoon" driving, not talking about it. still, it's really just dickheaddery, and thus I have no problems with not bragging about what I get up to in my car - not that I'd be able to do anything impressive

I CBS googling to find the stories but laws have been brought into a number of states that prohibit groups getting together to discuss "illegal" activities. In Vic its also been specifically aimed at bike clubs/groups. In QLD the wording led me to believe it has been specifically aimed at car drivers. The wording also seemed to be open to interpretation so that any group of car people getting together could technically be caught under the laws, even legitimate car clubs.

The problem is that idiots wont ever stop being idiots, they don't understand the concept of "consequences". They will never go and do proper racing events because they are too lazy & useless to build their cars properly.

Perhaps if there was a legal place where people could vent their inner hoon in a safe, controlled, insured environment, for a small fee, there would be less hoons out there, and more people enjoying their vehicles responsibly...

The people who make the laws in this country are idiots, the way most laws are written allows for abuse by police officers, who are treated like crap by the public, and so treat the public like crap. It's an endless circle.

That's the problem. Maybe they should spend some money on educating the younger generation of what happens when you drive like an idiot. They do hold these events for people to "vent their inner hoon" (nice wording their) but it's quite expensive, and anyway, why should they do that when they can go to a back street, vent some hoonage and then drive away?

But what would I know, I'm young and don't know what I'm talking about.

for less than the cost of a new toss off valve Friday night Drift practise is a cheap way to give your car a good sideways thrashing without any police interference or things to jump out in front of you........ and there are lot of chicks there as well for those amongst us who are still young enough to not need 1/2 a viagra to take a piss in the mornings.

heres some vid at qld raceway

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYG0MpA9Uns
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09lXozYADO0

also there is public practise at most racetracks thats usually $50.00 for a half day untimed.

cheers.
