Seems to be an FIA Nissan race head (LY crossflow) with what looks like an aftermarket HKS (blow through turbo) plenum being used for cold air induction...

LY crossflow, mid 1970's was used on L28 blocks, only for Japan domestic circuit racing.
Not FIA so not able to be made elegible outside Japan
Bugga!

The rims on the LY equipped cars were pure magnesium, along with many other drivetrain and suspension components, as such, due to age and life of the magnesium items, Nissan/Zama, will no longer use these cars in current competition or demonstration.
They do get wheeled out for the Nissan days though.

Great info Jason, always enlightened and freaked out but how little I know of a country I live in for part of the year!

I guess it would be cheaper adapting an RB head on an L series bottom end!

Interesting how the chamber is what alot of the aftermarket chev, ford and harley chambers look like.
Also the pro-swirl design is interesting as its not too far from the Napz architecture.
I also wonder which they didnt go roller tipped rocker arms but maybe with boost not an issue at all

black magic price!

overall condition of the car is worse than some very rare restored
Aussie muscle cars that sold for halve that much.

An 80s wedge style body for that price from Nissan must be some kind of record.

I think it was a case of :

$164,600 for the engine

$2.01 for the 280ZX
