The usual mods include:
air = let it breathe easier. i.e. larger or more free flowing exhaust, larger carby, head porting, larger valves, cam and intake manifold etc.
fuel = supply more to it. i.e. jetting carby or sports type SU or Weber carby(s).
compression = make a bigger bang in the combustion chamber. i.e. shave head, flattop pistons, closed chamber head etc.
Lots of info on the forum about performance mods for all L-series motors from L16 to L20B etc including increasing capacity, lighter flywheels, adjustable cam gear, yada yada yada, but sometimes simple things can help a little if you on a budget like sports aircleaner, replaced cracked vacuum hoses, electronic dizzy and free up the vacuum secondaries in the std carby etc...
A good book is how to modify L-series Datsun engine which you can find on Amazon or Ebay.
Have a search around this site and let us know how you get on with your 720 mods...
