hey guys. ive read on here about having to add a "modulator" when replacing the original breaker points distributor with a bosch bluebird 2 electric distributor.
whats the modulator for?
do I need it to get some fire in my pistons?
also, I read I needed a new coil,
so I got a bosch gt40t coil.
I wired the + and - according to my old coil.
I cut the long white resistor from the circuit.
but I don't know which wires go where coming out of the distributors.
my old dizzy has a blue wire and a green wire going into my wiring loom. blue attaches to the left of old dizzy, green attaches to the right.
my new bosch distributor has a pink and green wire coming out of it...

im wanting to attach green (dizzy) to green (loom), and pink (dizzy) to blue (loom)...
but im not sure, so best I ask here where you all know what youre doing!!

the module is bolted to the dizzy under the cover that hangs off the side. don't most gt40 coils have to be used with a resistor?

gt40 R coils are the resistor type used for points

like old tin said,the module is part of the electric dizzy,needed to be there efi or not

hey guys. cheers for all the info...
so I took that coil back, now ive got a good one

ive installed the new dizzy
attached pink to +
green to - (there was another cable coming from here, does this need to be connected anywhere else?)
plugged the cable from coil to dizzy cap
attached the wires from each end of the long white resistor to the same side which cancels that resistance true?
theres no other resistors in this line now.

turn the key and im not firing up.
have I missed something?
ill get a new rotor and cap asap.
also firing order is 1-3-4-2
number one piston is the one toward the back of the engine isn't it?

ok well that's never gunna start with the way id wired the plugs...
so ive now run piston 1 (front piston) into the dizzy spot where the rotor sits when I have the fan belt timing point set to the correct timing spot.
then Ive run 3-4-2 in counter clockwise on the dizzy cap
still no spark...

heres a stupid question... where does the dizzy and coil suck power from, as ive only got these plugged into each other... I have a feeling I need to plug the cable going into the white ceramic resistor (which is now totally disconnected to coil) back up to the coil... is this right???

yes you need the power to go to + side of coil. join both wires together that went to resistor and there should be another that went to + side of coil,turn ignition on and using a test lamp see which one has power connect this to + side of coil

Theres a black and white wire that is originally on the ballast resistor, this needs to now go on the positive side of your new coil (HEC715 is recommended).
Make sure you cover the wire that originally was screwed near the condenser on the side of the original distributor.

The first spark lead should usually be the one at the closest to you and on the left.

hey guys. thanks so much.
this worked a treat. running so much smoother with the new dizzy.
I set the dizzy up by eye and it kicked over and sure enough, timing is bang on. much better than the breaker points...

ill be back soon with more ridiculous questions im sure!
installing a twin su carby in the next week or so... wish me luck!!!
