Air Intake instead of head light legal or not? Also where do you get them from. They look great but wonder if you could have 3 lights legally or would it be better to have an intake on both sides to balance it out.

pretty sure taking a headlight out would be illegal in any state for rego purposes. i had this done from the previous owner on my last 1600. IMO, it looks sh*t. No one makes what you're after, make it yourself or pay a workshop to do it.

If you have a 1600, why dont you try running a pipe from this hole into the air box, directed straight at the filter. This way you can have a normal looking front end and a semi cold intake..

You could even have an air box directly behind the headlights with no side on the box, if you get what I mean... So the head lights and front panel make one side of the box.
There is air pressure built up at the front of the car and around the head lights, and the head light assemblies are no where near sealed - air well be rushing in around the lights. That is your cold air intake! Stealth too.

I did exactly what DATO4 suggests.
I opened the hole up to accept a 90mm storm water pipe, fitted a 90deg bend and a short length of straight to the base of a VK/VL Commodore air cleaner box.

Sealed up the factory air intake on the 'box so all engine air is drawn from outside the engine bay

Made a huge difference to the air intake temperature

If you upgrade to h4 globes on the outers you can have high and low with no requirement of the inner globes. This is legal in WA, I'm up grading all mine to h4s and I got myself a spun aluminium trumpet for a headlight intake. The trumpet originally designed to sit on top of a Holley carb and below a air cleaner on a v8 but it fits inside the original 1600 headlight housing all it needs is a few tabs welded on and some holes to mount it. Will post some photos of my idea when I get a chance.
