Hi all,

I have a friend who has an L16 (stanza) engine in his 1200 sedan, he looking at getting it registered soon and was not sure if he needed it to be engieered.

Any thoughts would be great

He'll probably need an engineers, unless you can show that a relevant South African model is in this country and on road (that has the L14 engine).

If there is one with the L14 engine and registered, that would be the base of your argument to say it's potentially ok to put a L16 in.

The alternative is your mate just takes it for a blue slip and acts dumb, it's unlikely a lot of the blue slippers would even know, especially if it has the Datsun OHC or Datsun 1600 rocker cover.

You will need it engineered its a lot more than a 20% increase in engine capacity its pretty easy to get an A14 through. Recommend getting a sweet L18 motor and running it more worth his while. Would say go L20b but there a taller motor/block and depending on how low the L16 is sitting (and i havent seen conversion) it could cause some grief and ending up him having to modify or remake crossmember.
