Power source and run through relays. So could use most of the original wiring.

so the lights have +12v fed to them all the time when wired up normally. whats everyones thoughts on just connecting the power wires straight off the altenator (with fuses ofcourse)? then wouldn't have to rewire everything and add relays |

that's a great design. Whats your opinion on running the power cables that go to the battery to the alternator instead? I have a sr in my car so the alternator is good, plus my battery is in the boot. I read somewhere there would be less voltage drop connected to the battery then the alt.

Probably OK but I prefer to run to the battery - it has more buffering capacity. And if you put the relays under the dash with my circuit, you need to run power up there anyway. I ran an extra cable from the battery to the relay bank under dash as my battery is also in the boot. |

This is a great thread and wireing high beam / driving lights are tricky.On my datto no 4 I had over 900 watts of light up front running on 3 integrated circuits.Talk about a nightmare trying to get it all working was very frustrating to say the least.I did the initial wireing and worked out a good circuit however the wire gauge and capacity of some components were under capacity and I had lots of burn outs of components and wires.I took the car to a well known auto electrical joint in Sydney and payed a hefty some of money to get it fixed.It lasted 6 weeks.My lights failed in Tasmania in a small hillbilly country town.I took my car to the one man service station and left my car there for the machanic to fix.This guy had my car for a week and when I picked it up he showed me all the faults with the wireing.Asking him how much he said $40 so I said you mean $400 he said no $40.Now this guy rewired all the circuits and upgraded lots of components.I payed him $100 as he had been working on my car all week as well running a one man service station.It took some hill bully back country machanic to fix it and the so called best in Sydney couldn't do it.I now have huge for Tasweigean machanics .
