anyone give me tips about welding exhausts with an arrc? like amp settings , stick size etc?

i have done very little arrc welding so i am no expert and it is the only welder i have

head down to bunnings in balcatta and pick up a packet of "ALLWELD" 2.0mm sticks - $6.40 for 30 sticks from memory. these are a great cheap stick with a very easy start.

anything bigger will punch holes in an exhaust the size of a 5c piece as soon as you touch it.

do you know how to stich weld? it's a lot easier than just running a bead around the joint and might be easier due to the thin walls of the pipe because it minimises heat build up.

yea cheers pro

i have done some stitch welding before on exhausts it just didnt end up looking all that neat!. i think i might make the exhaust up but just tack weld it then take it in to get it properly welded 8)

best of both worlds

if you're gonna tack it, then you might as well finish the job while you're there. stich welding is exactly that - a series of joined tacks. it ends up looking like intercooler / surge tank welding.

that's stich welding :wink:

wouldnt want an intercooler or surge tank with welds like i perform on them :shock:

dad says i'm better than him at it with a stick, and he's a boilermaker :!:
