Ok,
Who out there knows how to build a true grunter, i mean, 2.4 litres, L20 block with ? crank etc etc. I am after some motor combinations for rally use, does not necessarily need to be PRC specific i.e L18 block but am open to suggestions.

http://www.ozdat.com/ozdatonline/enginedesign if you want to play with combinations.

http://home.att.net/~jason510/Motorspecs.htm for some ready-to-go formulas.

http://www.google.com where you should've gone first.

http://ozdat.com/forum/search.php where you should've gone second.

Of course, you can always give Locky a call at Nissauto in Ferntree Gully. :D

Cheers,

The largest capacity I have seen out of an L18, is a tad over 2.3L!

This requires both boring and stroking the engine, which means a lot, and I mean a LOT, of machining of the block to fit a Z22 crank and and a few other parts. I only know of 2 of these motors ever. The bore is still around the 89mm mark but the stoke is longer...

damn 2.3L !!!

it would require alot of work i guess. so ill stick to my 1998cc motor iv got plans for

i found this article about stwart wilkson

Using an L18 block rather than the more common L20B blocks used in Grunter Mk.1, this work of art churns out 220 horsepower on the dyno, thanks to a meticulous build, twin 48mm Webers and a special Collins-built two and a half inch set of extractors.

The current motor, thanks to some very innovative work on the crank and rods, is out to 2400cc. You get the impression that Collins is reasonably impressed with the new engine - he tells us that it's so tractable that you could even use it to drive to the supermarket in!

the full article is here

i wish i had that motor in my datto would make historic rallies fun to say the least.

maybe if you want a stoker you should contact stwart wilkson he sounds like to be a real pro at datto engines!

Sure stroking a L4 will give you lots of low down grunt but you aint gonna be able to rev it that far!!
I would think that 7000rpm would be about the safe limit!
So there goes all the hot cams with long durations and 8000rpm+ redlines!
Could stick with a Datsport 25/65 Cam!! they rock and are good for about 7000rpm! will lots of low down pull.
Also Z22 / Z24 cranks are sh*t when compared to the factory L4 crank.
It would seem that they are not fully counterweighted like the L4 jobbie.

L18's will rev harder than a L20 !
More revs = more power
More Power = more fun
