can anyone point in the right direction for an expansion tank for my VW Golf-radiator-ed Z18?

at the moment, my cooling system isn't pressurised :?

or even wreckers in perth that wreck relatively new cars, so i can go have a look around myself.

Just get an expansion tank from any wreck that has a reasonable setup.
When you say the system is not pressurized, do you mean it is venting to the atmosphere with no coolant recovery??
That is a 1/2 baked system.
However if you mean you are not using a pressure cap, your cooling capacity will be severely reduced.

Oh, lose that avatar, it is inappropriate.

yep no pressure cap. runs slightly hotter than normal, but still less than halfway, even on 35+degree day.

re avatar: you reckon?! i thought it was funny, and so do most other people. maybe if you knew someone that had been doused in petrol... anywho it's changed now

Yeh the old avatar seemed ok to me. Anyway, check out radiator caps when you get the reservoir set up, I have some vague recollection of some caps not allowing the coolant to be drawn back into the radiator.

Tis true, you need to use a cap for coolant recovery.
Not hard to find
