I consider some of those 1600s to have had a lot of material cut out of them to fit intercoolers, rather than 'minimal'.

You can just tell that the front panel that goes behind the bumper has been trimmed from the inside or removed altogether. I've even seen 1600s with the back of the bumper chopped out!

Many with huge intercoolers also have the rod that goes from the top of the radiator support down to the front of the chassis removed altogether - this makes the top of the radiator support panel flex heaps! This section holds the bonnet down too!
Zachary

I know you are not talking about chris's, jeff's or mine (pics at the top) as we cut 'minimum' amounts from the front to fit the cooler. I have retained a 'fabricated' rad support car and chris has the factory one.
Believe me I have procrastinated over this for a long time. Unless you have a magically thin radiator between your headlights you cannot run anything much smaller.
I know of some cars which cut everything out of the front to fit an i/c. None of us have done this and it should be quite clear from the pics. About 2cm either side and a scallop at the bottom where a big hole exists anyway.

sorry vaughan cannot help with the fj dimlema. Did not know thr fj took up more room. Maybe try maddat who uses mick's metal craft for i/cs and rads.

Someone took mine out and the bonnet would lift up about an 1" at highway speed...

I agree you need to try and keep a supprt for the radiator support panel. :)

I had a new cooler made recently after a front ender, :( I simply added a peice of flat as in pictures. I eventually painted it silver and you cant see it behind grill.

Cheers,
Mal

Yes I've seen the front on photo of chris' setup and it fits well with the grill in standard spot. I have no idea how korn intends to fit a grill to his car :D

On my car I have the radiator set about 3mm from the water pump pulley. You can't even get the fan belt inbetween it.. But seriously that doesn't matter because the engine isn't going to move forwards.

My cooler sits about 5mm from grill, and with a standard 3 core radiator my thermo fan sits about 1cm from water pump pulley. Like Zacs its all close but fits.

I must say im impressed with these cheap coolers having seen what the guys are doing with them, they mount well and from all reports they flow great. I wont tell you what mine cost..

Mal,

I've got an ARE cooler for my 240. Definitely not cheap! What type was yours? Mine is an E69 bar and plate. I was thinking of getting another one of the same to fit in the front of my 16, much the same as you have. Any more info?

Dave

Helix112,

I asked Richard to make me a cooler that would fit in based on the cutting already done to fit an Evo IV core by prev owner. I had 90bends fitted to the end of the tanks, they sit approx 10mm inside the chasis rail.

I dont know the core used sorry. I do know it flows much much better up top. :)

My next car will use one of these cheap coolers but, they just too good for the money and can be made to fit very well.

Richard is even selling them now, not becuase they are better than what he does but for most applications they are great, there is however , no comparing his workmanship to them.

Cheers,
Mal

I work at repco and i think i'll be able to accomodate your needs for something less than even $400. If the original message with the dimensions is what you need i have many contacts that i can buy off. Intercoolers have dropped in price significantly. :D
