Use the sump and oil pickup off the 1600 motor.

Only other potential problem is that your exhaust may hit the underside of the car, as the L20B is a bit taller than an L16 thus raising the exhaust manifold and exhaust as well. Will depend on what exhaust you have on the car.

If you're really fussy, you can alter where the throttle linkage bolts onto the firewall as the inlet manifold / carbs will be higher for the same reason, although I've gotten away without doing so in the past.

the bit everyone neglects to mention when they talk about swapping the sump and pickup, is the dipstick which is also in a diferent location in the blocks! That is a bit more fiddly...

WHAT IF YOU USE THE 1600 DIPSTICK IN THE L20B TUBE? WILL THAT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE IN COMPENSATING FOR THE L20B SUMP/ AFFECT THE OIL LEVEL READING?

Yep - forgot the dipstick. The engine I used (plus the spare I still have) both had two dipstick tubes :? .

The one in the correct location for a 1600 was just crimped over on the end. I hacksawed a few mm off, straightened it up and used that dipstick tube with the 1600 dipstick. Just had to remember it read a few mm too much oil :D
