I have drained the bad fuel from the Rally car tank, and filled it up with some fresh 98pulp.
Big improvement in engine sound/running.
BUT.....now faced with the task of tuning this sucker.
This is the current setup.
L18+1mm OS
Flat top forged pistons, make unknown.
L16:shock: head -2mm from face.
38mm intake ports with ported exhaust.
Big Ugly Crow regrind, without the correct lashpads
I'm guessing it is about a 72-74 range.
4-2-2 Extractors with 2 inch system
34ADM Weber on Datsport matchported manifold.
S2 Bluebird Dizzy
Bluebird 5speed, R180 4.6 open.
This sucker must have massive compression with the above combo of parts. It had run fine on some 38mm SU's but was no way near its optimium output. The SU's needed rebuilding so they got pulled, the Weber has more power in it than the stock SU's so it made the obvious choice for replacement.
Atm it has been missfiring under load.
much over 3000rpm and the old girl just aint happy.
I will be getting a timing light to it tomorrow but the problem is I dont know where to start.
Should I time it up using base factory specs then progress from there?
I will have to check the valve clearances thats for certain.
The fuel mixture on the Weber is the same as when it was pulled from my other L18, so it "should" be about spot on.
Any suggests for what I should start base timing at ?
I was thinking 15deg static advance as this is what my other L18 was set at. I really would like to nut this out without having to pay for a mechanic.
Thanks guys
Dave.
