I am searching for better ratio's for my track day Datto, i have got a 280zx box behind it at the moment but the gearing is well awful. The normal story give it a heap of revs in 2nd change to 3rd and watch the tacho die

I have been told that sr20det boxs will work behind a l20b but you have to change the bellhousing to do it, just wondering if any one has any info or heard of this being done before.

Luke

You need to widen one hole and install a different bearing on one of the support shafts. Basically you will be using the bearing which fits the L engine bell housing. The hole shows itself when installing.
Not to much work, just use common sense.

SR20 5spd ratios are much like an early datto 5spd, but 2nd gear is now decent, and 5th gear is a taller overdrive. Still has pretty wide ratios.

SR20 boxes do not bolt up to the L as is. See the attached photo of S15 6spd placed next to an L20B. Not even close.

I think it's been discussed before, that the RB bellhousing can be used to fit the SR 5spd box up to an L engine. Can't remember. Try a search.

6spd box would need a 6spd RB bellhousing I guess (hah!), or an adaptor plate.

It's been a while since I've done this, but you can definitely fit a 2.4E (MR30?) Skyline 5sp onto an SR bellhousing SO the reverse should also be possible to mate an SR 5sp to a 2.4E bellhousing (ie L series ready)

As Johann quite rightly pointed out - the bearing sizes are different so you'll need to swap the bigger SR ones onto the 2.4E bellhousing - FROM MEMORY!!

Also - SR O/P spline is same as 2.4E spline
