yeah but it's not fully counter-weighted so it won't rev. might also need relieving the inside of the block in places

no it won't unless you do major machining.
The l18 has smaller main journals that the corresponding z24 crank. You can machine the journals out but this is, as above major machining.

better off starting with an l20 block because they have the same size journals

l13, l16, and l18 have smaller main journals than l20b,z20,z22,z24

as guppy said above machining of the counterweights and block is also needed

- So Z18 cranks are fully counterweighted ?

- And Z18 mains are the same as L18 mains ?

If these are both definetely yes, I will be sticking to a Z18 crank for now.

Another question  Are there any drama's in registering/ engineering an engine such as a Z18t with an aftermarket ECU ? ( maybe I should have started a new topic...no more q's!! )

yeah sorry i didnt see the Z in z18.

the z18 is nearly identical to the l18 bottom end anyway. Only difference i think is that, the z18 has a slightly different timing cover and has the block breather pointing backwards instead of out the side (this is so it clears the turbo).

stick with the z18 and do a full rebuild. Should get good reliability and power if the boost is not pumped up too much.

i don't think you should have any trouble with the aftermarket ecu

best stroker= L20 blok, z22crank.

the Z24 crank makes for a sh*t motor.

"the Z24 crank makes for a sh#t motor."
"i second that "
i was in the process of collecting parts to do this, WHY is it sh!t? only 2 people have done this? please tell me what is better about the Z22 when doing a stroker and why? putting it in an l20 and grinding is not an issue. only problem i have been told/heard about is oblonging of the cylinders, but was probably in a race motor, and not a street car.

Every Z18 crank i have seen has not been fully counter weighted.
best to use L18 crank from OZ spec std L18. ( if yours is not)

i took the sump off my z18et the other day and found it was fully counterweighted.
I don't think it has been exchanged with a l18 crank before because it was a stock import from japan.

hmmm maybe japan import z18et's were fully counterweighted???? :?

What is the advantage (increased revs wize) from an L18 crank over the z18 one and could you use the L20 crank (after correct machining) and still maintain the Z18 rods and pistons (same for the L18 crank can you use the standard rods etc)

It would appear mine neads a freshen up so I may do either of the above depending on gains.

Cheers :)
