I was simply wondering if these http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... BIN_Stores make you car sound loud or would i be better off just getting a cheap $20 tip?

Thanks

"Increases 15% horsepower"

somehow I doubt that

it's probably make it louder than a conventional 2" muffler, but if you just want a flashy part hanging out the back of your car just grab a tip from supercheap or repco

It may give you a couple of KW, but there is now way in hell that you would notice it. Plus it would make your car sound like a lancer  And we cant be having that! If you want noice, take your rear muffler off and buy a cheapo($20) resonator of roughly the same size and make some mounts up. I did with my 260Z and it sounds great, but no power difference.

15% power increase is utter bullshit!

Maybe if you had a spud in your old muffler.

surely an exaust can only flow as fast as its smallest point, so i dont even see how it could add even "a few kW" unless its fitted to a larger system.

But (most) motorbikes rev into 5 digits...

Because a convensional(stock) muffler has alot of restriction to make the car as quiet as possible. These fart cannons have a freer flowing style, so less resriction on exhaust gasses therefore less energy wated by the engine pushing the spent gasses through the system.

There is a science in itself with exhaust systems, there was a big thread on it on fastfours forum a while back. like posrting and polishing and back pressure etc etc.

From a simplistic view, ie, ignoring resonance tuning, the nearer you are to the engine the hotter the gases are the bigger your exhaust needs to be to flow a given amount (to maintain a back pressure).

Thus if you have an exhaust tapering down from the engine, say 2.5 to 2.25 to 2 it won't be such a bad thing, but its a pointless thing to go from a smaller size closer to the engine back up again.
