Early 240Zs had a flange to bolt the tailshaft to rather than the splined arrangement used in everything since. The box you're asking about is likely to be a factory close ratio box for early 240Zs.

Option 1 is a rally box. The flange type is an option.
Just a different mainshaft & extn housing.

Correct. Those gearbox are called 71A's & are longest of the production L-series gearboxs. They are also found in Roadsters.

I'm afraid that's incorrect.
Option gearbox are the same length (give or take a few mm) as a 71B gearbox (same length as 260Z, 240K, S2 Bluebird...)

Is the OP referring this Option 1 I have for sale?
Option box's have a dogleg shift pattern & closer ratios:
1st: 2.818
1.973
1.470
1.192
1.000

71B Option boxes came in three different gearset ratios.
Option boxes in 71A came in two different gearset ratios.
The 71A boxes had ability to be fitted with two alternate bellhousings, to suit L or U series engine.
71A boxes could also be fitted with either a short ( Roadster) or long (Z) extension housing.
All had rear flange output, and used two piece slip yoke type tailshaft.
