Hi guys, I REALLY need an overdrive for my 200b as it's way too noisy/revvy at highway speeds. Has anyone looked into VL Nissan Auto for overdrive, I did a search but most people seem to go Bluebird 5 speed. Is it impossible or not worth the time to attempt? I'm new to Datsuns, so I'm on a learning curve! And if a 5 speed is the go , are they hard to find and what's the going rate(I need the full conversion)!
Cheers

Probably easier to find a 5 speed man. Mate at work has 4 speed with over drive on his Volvo, you have to push the clutch in then flick a switch and you have to do that changing down to 4th aswell. Seems like a lot of drama for a gear change. Maybe check your diff ratio get something below 3.9 if your doing a lot of highway driving. If you got a Facebook account ask on Datsun classified, someone might have all the gear for sale.

The other option would be an R30 4-speed auto. It will bolt up to your engine but I'm not sure what you'd have to do about the gearbox crossmember. One of the guys who built a Cedric on here used one.

Cheers for the reply. R30 is overdrive 4th gear? I'll read the link shortly.

Hey mate I noticed your location, I'm at wagga and I have a parts 200b at the Rock that is manual if you are chasing the parts too convert yours too manual. It's only the std 4 speed but just put a 5 speed in instead of the 4 speed.

Was fitted to my son's MR30 Skyline.
It has an electrically controlled torque converter lockup.
Just ignore the trashy matte black paint on the case

Hey guys, so still in two minds about manual or auto after speaking to Chris and Graeme. Reason is I've found a VL auto locally off a mate and all I need to know is, what bell housing is the one I need for the VL box to fit the L20b? Will the 3n71b bell housing fit? And apparently there are 2 types of VL box, one is electronic and one is hydraulic shifted? If I can get a definitive answer on VL box, I can make a decision. Might have to call a transmission place. It would be great to get an answer from Graeme about his box, I seem to keep missing him even with PM!

Sorry, haven't seen any PMs.
Bear in mind, if you use a 4 speed 'box, you may need to enlarge the trans tunnel
