Hey all

Not an expert on these things, I just put the car up on axle stands as I thought it was the gearbox that is stuffed but... maybe not?

What kind of diff is it? Single spinner or lsd

Does it make noise? It could be something else like a brake issue

I thought it could be brakes but with the car on stands and running through every gear with the handbrake on there is a very noticeable "clunk", "clunk", "clunk" sound coming from the passenger side of the car where the wheel is not spinning.

She'll go in to the mechanic on the 8th to confirm but based on two mates of mine who are ex-mechanics I'm pretty much calling it that it is the diff now.

The bugger is I don't have a spare diff so I'll have to bite the bullet and get this one repaired. There are a couple of good places in Frankston that will reco a whole diff so while it is in the shop I'll see if I can get the ratio's made a bit taller and maybe see if they can make it into a bit of a mild LSD while they're at it - not sure how feasible this is with a standard 1600 diff but maybe I'll get lucky

I thought that... but then that would require more work to CV shafts, maybe tailshaft too right?

Not against it, just don't really have the time/skills on my side

I'm not sure but I have had this happen in a previous car ( non datto) it was wheel bearings seized ..

No if you go r180 it will use the same shafts that you have now(unless you do a subaru r180 conversion)

And it is the diff.

I have a spare though so I can get it back on the road. Will look into an R180 as a project down the track, anyone have a decent step-by-step guide on one?
