Good tyres cost lots of money. That's all there is to it. Anyone that wants to run semi's on the street and wants to throw all there money away is welcome to and I will laugh on ass off all the way to the track with my semi's fitted. Tyres are the best suspension upgrade you can make and to skimp on them is skimping on the cars performance, your saftey and more importantly other people saftey. Buy the best you can afford. Simple :D

I had some Bridgestone Potenzas once, they were great. I have Toyos on my RX-7, well, just on the rear now. Fine in the dry, rubbish in the wet. After getting sick of aquaplaning I went to the wreckers and bought some $10 specials and they're far better.

My dad had some Michelins on his Land Rover from factory. Not a performance car by any stretch of the imagination, but he got 121,000km out of them.

205s aren't too wide for 6" rims (205/50 on 15x6 in pic below).
Out of interest how much do the tyres you are considering cost?

IMO Bridgestone Adrenalin RE001...

can't beat them, they're freaking awesome in any weather and I can get them at a decent price from John at Protek in Oakleigh.

hmm might go 205/50's. I'm going to buy a pair to start with, as 2 of my tyres are still fair good. And so i can see how they go. I was thinking about spending around 150 a tyre, But havent got any prices. I'll getting the tyres through my brother, As he sell's tyres. He told me to find out what i wanted, and then he'll price them up. But i dont know what i can afford.

Found Federal SS-595's on ebay for $120 rrp$150 in 195/55's. 280 tread wear, so fairly hard. I think bridgestone's are a bit out my price range too.

Feds are alright but don't like them in the wet, the Bridgeys are good in all weather conditions but if anything they're a bit soft and can wear quick if you throw your car hard around corners every day...

federal RS-R are on ebay for $145ea, you might be able to get them cheaper from a local federal motorsports dealer or someone sponsored by federal.
My only experience with the RE-001 was a couple of weeks ago in a friends 350awkw r32 gtr, with 8500rpm clutch dumps got fk all wheelspin on the strip, but driving home in the rain the car was aquaplaning a lot. 255/40 17.

There are RE-001 on ebay for ~$130 IIRC.

^^^ i think just about anything with such a wide tyre would aqua plane, thing of the surface area and think of how long the water trapped in the middle of the tread takes to make it out the sides of the tyres.

$130 is a freaking bargain!!!

Ok got some prices. First Maxxis aren't cheap rr$190 for the i-pro's, My brother can do them a little bit cheaper. But not a $150 a tyre. My local Federal dealer cant get any 595's in 15's. So i did a ring around, Told the sale person what a had to spend. And found that Toyo T1r's in 195/55's. Where the best in my price range, At $150 each fitted and balanced. Now Dattoholic did say they are crap in the wet, But i'll give them ago and see what i think. They have to be better then the sava's. Cheers for the Help. Any feedback is welcome.

Getting great results from 195/50/15 R1Rs, not too bad in the wet either.
Just that the grip in the dry is so good that the drop off in grip is noticable in the wet.
$175 fitted & balanced.

Thanks Baz. My mate runs the r1r's on on his toyota 86. And i was fairly impressed with them. It's just price and tread wear. As i dident want to go over the 150 mark. And the t1r's have a 280 treadwear, and the r1r's have 140. My car is still a daily, so i want tyres with a bit of life.
I want to put some 16x7inch mags on my car later on down the tarck, When the Fj's ready to go in. I reckon that when i do that. I'll go r1r's.
