Got a bit of free play in my steering box so i have another one i am swapping it for.
Can i take out the rubber spacer from wheel to box for more direct feel or will this cause issues?

Cheers

You will need a bit of compliance at that joint so most folks fit a polyurethane coupling.
That will give you a firmer joint, if you'll pardon the expression, but still allow some flexibility between the shaft and the box :)
