So, after a few motorkhanas in my MX5, seems I've gone soft and the thought of going back to using the under dash one in competition doesn't appeal

Brake system needs a complete overhaul anyway, plus the brake line in the transmission tunnel and the rear housing of the 6 speed box rub a little, so I'm thinking of fitting a cheap ebay hydro handbrake. Anyone used them / care to offer opinions ? They pretty much all seem to use a 3/4" cylinder - OK size to use with stock rear drums ?

I'll be keeping the existing under dash one for normal use, the hydro one will only be for motorkhanas.

I young friend of mine uses that type of handbrake in his Gemini club-car, that he runs Tarmac Autocross's in.
Apparently it works really well, cyl doesn't leak & hasn't had any issues with it (touch wood). I was impressed with the quality Vs price!

Have one in our drift car. Works sweet. Needs a good tug to lock up in a straight line but once sideways they work sweet. That's with an in-line setup on a disc brake rear end.

Would definitely work better with it's own reservoir on a seperate caliper.

Old picture while we were building it, we ended up using a bright red handle bar grip on it so it's easy to see in your peripheral vision and a good grip.

Follow up question - what size cylinder ? common sizes on ebay are 5/8" and 3/4", but also available up to 1". I'm still running the stock rear drums.
