Hey guys, just have a bit of a problem with the stanza... The wipers/windscreen squirter arent working, and my stereo cuts out ever.time I push/flick the switch to turn the wipers/squirter on. Was hoping someone could indicate whether its likely to be the switch or a relay which is faulty.

Obviously the stereo is connected to the power wire for the wipers, so is it possible that it has drawn too much current and fried the switch?

If you don't have wipers in Far North Queensland your gonna have a bad time! So any help appreciated. :)

When i pulled the bottom cover off of the steering column I found a small brass(?) rod, any ideas what this is?

cheers guys

The rod is probably the connection to the horn ring in the steering wheel hub.
It is usually held in place by spring tension.
My guess is that your horn is broke too :(

Does the stereo blow a fuse or just cut out when the switch is operated?

I know the name of the guys that wired in the stereo.....Dodgy brothers!

Oh ohkay, that makes sense... The horn buttorn has never worked so I just wired it up to a push switch to get it road worthied.

No, the stereo doesn't blow a fuse it just cuts out completely until you turn the key off and then back to the on position again, and turning the aircon, wiper or squirter on trips it off and none of them will work. I'm guessing that there's just far to much current being drawn from this circuit ( the aircon is a recent addition ). Do you think this has blown the switch though? Because it was working just fine for a couple months.

And thanks for the reply/diagram Nissanman!

They don't call it electrickery for no reason
It all sounds cactus to me.
I suggest you disconnect the stereo and A/C from whatever they get their 12V from and start from scratch.
As you can see from the schematic, the wipers/washer are via a fusible link and the Accessory fuse so the current draw must be within the specs. PROVIDING it is wired as it should be

On closer inspection I've realised that the fuse for wipers etc is blown, and the stereo was simply earthing out through this circuits (hence it turning on then off). Thanks for the help nissanman! :)
