Hi,

I bought the following distributor to put into my Stanza:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ELECTRONIC-D ... 417450bc57

I also have a BOSCH HEC715 ignition coil coming in the mail. Today I intended to swap the new dizzy in and see how it runs on the stock coil. However the new dizzy does not fit, it looks like it will need some kind of spacer as it is far longer than the original dizzy.

Any ideas? To me it looks like the wrong part all together.

Cheers

It's the wrong one send it back.
Put a pertronix(spelling) kit in your one for $70 from the USA

Its not the wrong one. You just need the spacer (pedestal) and a timing plate afaik.

Theres a good thread about them here:

p.s. it says this in the Ebay description:

Note: For L series engines, you need to use the short timing cover spacer from your old distributor.

Thanks for the replies. I wanted to go with a new distributor all together so I wouldn't just be putting a worn one back in.

I did see the note about the spacer but I just assumed that I had one in the car. I will have to try my luck finding a pedestal and timing plate. Seems likely that I will end up sending it back though, bummer.

Thanks for the help. One day I will learn not to impulse buy the first thing I see on ebay, one day.

You find the spacer with Hitachi distributors (1600 & 180B, also L24 and L26 engines). The later Bosch distributors (like yours) never had them. Surely someone on Ozdat will have one spare. I might- I'll check tomorrow.

There are several depending on engine. Be sure to get the adjustment plate. Sometimes flipping the plate will work too.

Have not found one yet, still looking around.

If anyone on the sunshine coast has one to get rid of, let me know.

I have 3 or 4 on old distributors but there must be someone closer to you with one. Unlike distributors they never wear out.....

I had to drive down to Brisbane for work today so I dropped in at A1 Nissan Wreckers and picked up this badboy for $30:

Even if it is not exactly the right one I should be able to modify the plate to make it work. I probably won't get a chance to put it in until the weekend, I'll let you know how it goes.

Any advice on what leads and plugs to go with?

Cheers

Plugs: use NGK BP6ES. Whether your L Series is stock or has a hot cam, big compression and webers they'll work nicely. A bit of anti-sieze on the threads is good, too.

Leads: Rule of thumb is get the best ones you can afford but I don't have a favourite brand.

Cheers!
