Need help on how to diagnose the cause of the fuel and temp gauges not working in my 1984 720 ute. Everything else in the dash is functioning fine. Just wanting to know where to start. I couldn't find another forum topic on this, if there is one please direct me to it

cheers

Sounds like there might be a voltage regulator common to both gauges. I don't know what it looks like in your case, maybe check a wiring diagram and trace things out a bit.

As he said.
The fuel and coolant temp. gauges are powered via a small metal can which is a Voltage Regulator.
As with most electrical devices, it has probably gone open circuit.
Usually, they are mounted somewhere near the steering column, and should be grounded to the body.
Check the connections, voltage in and out and make sure it is grounded.

Thanks for the help I'm gonna try and figure it out this weekend. Ill try and do as you both have said, if you think of anything else let me know I'm not quite sure what I'm looking for but Ill try and figure it out, I've checked all the fuses and they are fine but the fuse panel is not attached, maybe that has something to do with it?

Some cars had the voltage regulator for the gauges mounted on the dash circuit board somewhere, near the gauges.
If you pull the dash out, you might be able to just see it easily (I don't know the 720 dash at all).
The electronic style reg will be hard for many people to repair, and you'd just need to find another.
Old ones were a heated bimetalic strip arrangement and may be repairable (if you're used to micro-surgery) if the problem is just bad contacts.

Mostly OK, needs typical rust and panel work.
