Hey guys just wondering if anybody knows if a simple vga to usb cable would work for a pic link cable from wolf 3d ems version 4 to laptop?

It won't. Wolf are very sensitive to the cabling used.
Call Robbie at Wolf & ask him to send you the correct cable.
