hi all,

so i need a heater to pass engineering and blue slip. i want a heater aswell as its nice to have the window down on a winter cruise, but still have hot air coming up from your feet.
im missing a few factory vents/tubes as the rolling shell i bought didnt come with a heater.

i have the straight tubes that run from back of plenum to vents on either side of dash, and also have the demister vents, but im missing the link between demister vents and heater box.

aside from demister vents and flap at bottom of heater box, is heat supposed to be directed anywhere else?

and finally, are all heater boxes the same? i've seen jdm/sss boxes on ebay, but will standard boxes fit all year models?

any pics you have would be appreciated too.

cheers :cheers

the std 1600 heater box just pump air to the windscreen or/and the floor. but the sss has the extra vents that sit up under the ash tray.. the standard heater boxes are ok but the fans are a bit noisey, so if your lucky enough to have a quite 1600 you'll hear it running.
its worth keeping in mind when playing with your heatbox, use good hoses and clamps (triton are good and cheep) if the hose bursts its gonna spray your legs with hot water, they noramly pop when it's hot.

i'm not using the standard heater box i've decided to change it to a usa made Vintage air unit, it uses a drum fan and aluminium core and servo controlled tap.. it fits into the standard spot with out to much hassle. down side, it only uses the air within the cabin but that's not an issue for me..

good luck

apparently the mid section to rear end of the trans tunnel is what needs to be modified to fit 25 box. no one has told me yet that i need to a fab a complete new tunnel.

plus my shell is a factory auto, so think i'll get away with it :D

Was this one of those ebay ones from Japan?

Be careful as they are very different to the Aussie delivered ones.

cheers

Yeah that is one of these taps.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/DATSUN-510-Heate ... 3a6254c89f

You can see in that link you sent the heater is quite different to the ones we get in Australia, well at least different to all the ones I have seen/played with. It will require a fair bit of modding but possible to adapt I guess. The core has its outlets in different places and at different angles to ours.

cheers

James

Thats the one we use. Good find. I was struggling to find a photo of an Oz delivered one. I also did not know the taps were the same.

cheers
