My stanza has a rather bent chasis rail and inner fender. Reading about repairs and have ready that most unibody cars are made from high strength steel and that this steel does not like being heated.

Does anybody know if these old shells have high strength steel, or are they just mild steel?

In the era of the Stanza, the alloys of steel used were not particularly sophisticated, there are no "hi strength" steels in a Stanza that are comparable to other motor vehicle manufactured within the last 5-10 years.

You will not have any issue in using "traditional" crash repair / panel beating techniques to repair the shell. Most of the time cutting heavily bent chassis sections and / or pulling them into alignment on a rack or bench, then welding in replacements, heating / shrinking, etc will not impact the structural integrity, assuming the work is done properly to accepted procedures, of the finished repair.
