From memory the VQ35DE (not sure about the HR) can run with a Haltech Platinum that plugs into the factory loom. Just wish they made one for the VQ25DET...

Its looking like M6000.
The E420d doesnt have the capacity.
I have been talking to them and will sort it once the engine is in and its rolling.
Nik the HR is literally a totally different engine to the DE.
As in NOTHING is interchangable.
Not sure why they carry the same name.
So no the Haltech PnP for the DE wont work :(
Plus i went to uni with the guy that developed Adaptronic and would rather support a local company.
It will be lucky to need wiring before xmas.

Damn. Just did some reading about the HR. Completely different. Different pistons, heads, valves, exhaust system, block is stronger, twin throttle bodies (?)
Looks like a good challenge!

Yep didn't think the e420d would cut it hehe

Andy has a good face for radio. He needs to get a "scott from haltech" to do some marketing videos, would help his sales. I bought the e420d to support a local product as well.

Small update.
I have removed all the suspension gear.
Im looking at buying a plasma cutter to chop the car to bits so this engine can get in there.

Got some more stuff to play with.
New AC/DC TIG Plasma.
Wishbone suspension.
Chopped a hole in the front with the plasma.

+1
Also looking forward to seeing the amount of flare you will be running! Are you going to be running box flares or a rocket bunny kit :P

Something more like rocket bunny style I'm thinking
Front wheel arches will pretty much run flat off the top of the guard.
Rears up near the fuel flap.

Not much happening.
I went on holiday for 7 weeks so i blame that.
I stopped in at the US for a day on the way home and picked up a couple of bits missing from my engine.
I got an alternator which when mounted up has the steering rack head going straight through it so i cranked up the new TIG and made a bracket to mount it on the other side.
Ive got a pretty good idea of what to do for a chassis, ive just got to do it.

Howdy folks,
Its biannual update time.
Based on everyone elses update frequency im assuming the traffic here is pretty light these days.
Ide love to say i would have been updating at least annually because im just too busy in the garage working on rusty metal.
But i cant.
Short version of this update is the car is pretty much in the same state as last time, maybe with a few more panels cut out.
Longer version is i bought a house, bigger garage than before, but then house stuff takes up my time so less build time.
I ran the track day at the last nationals which took up some time and was extremely stressful but all worked out ok in the end.
I have been on several trips to south and central America again eating away at precious build time.
I have found some joy in watching others build their cars on Youtube.
So that the excuse list.
The reality list is i dont know what im doing and its a long and slow process trying to teach myself.
Once i had the new garage set up to my liking i put my head down and got into it.
At last update i was about to graft FD suspension in front and back.
I pondered for quite a while on how to do this cheaply.
My main concern was trying to get as much adjustability into the arms as possible.
I didnt really want to pay the big bickies for aftermarket solutions.
So i convinced myself into making the arms.
I then pondered on remaking the subframes blah blah.
Nek minute i have decided to just redesign the arms and pickup points.
I had all but decided on the numbers and was about to start welding when Liam Hills Excel uprights came up for sale.
So i bought them and Liam (total legend) basically told me the specs of the Excel suspension design and slightly rejigged the numbers to suit the Datto.
If you dont know this Excel build you have wasted your life until now.
Search Riverside Racing on Facebook or apply for a weeks leave and sit down with a few tinnies and read this http://www.performanceforums.com/forums ... orts-Sedan
So that was xmas 2017.
In Jan 2018 i caught the crypto trading bug and thought i was going to be rich and basically spent the next few months watching my car fund go down the drain and didnt even step into the garage for about 6 months.
I then got re motivated into working on the Dat but again it is just a slow process when you dont know what youre doing.
So im currently at the stage where the rear subframe is 90% done and ive made mockup control arms for one side.
The engine and box are sitting on a trolley that has them at ride height for the current height of the cars trolley wheels.
Ill spend the next little while working out where to put the engine and diff then make the front suspension.
Once the front suspension is done then i will expand the cage to tie it all in and then it should only be 1, maybe 2 biannual updates until its back on the track.
I often ponder is it too late to just bolt in a CA, just like that one i used to have that had nothing wrong with it, bolt in some 510 suspension, just like it used to have that had nothing wrong with it, and just fucken drive the thing. O how i ponder. **** it is too late so owell back to welding rusty metal.
Anyone want to buy and FD suspension parts?

Sounds familiar.

I thought I was finally getting somewhere in life, kids are grown up, etc, etc.

Then the house I built 20-odd years ago started falling to bits. So far, all new decks over last year. Now about to rip out the bathroom. Then fix the leaking roof. And fix / paint the ceiling that the leaking roof damaged. By the time that's all done, something else will need fixing.

Then more travelling because, well, no kids and we can (just) afford it so wife wants to travel.

Subframe looks very neat - just CDS or a more exotic material ?

How far back do you plan to mount the engine ? Proper mid-engine or not that radical ? Is it in roughly its final spot in the pic above ?

Perhaps you should start an "import" business on your next trip to Central America to fund the datto.............
