Yeah still here! I'll post an anth-esque photo detailed thing as I go

So this is the go, R32 gtr lsd centre into a long one r200. It's a 3.9 ratio, I'd love a 4.1 but couldn't find one at the time

[ img ]

The centres measure the same, the crownwheels are very different in thickness. Funnily enough the old dr30 one is thicker

Here's the bolt differences. The m13 looks huge compared to the m10.

First step is to get some bits made up with m13 od m10 I'd to bolt it together

Good to hear you're still alive Leigh  keen to see some progress on this. Is the new diff an R230? Should be interesting making it all fit.

It's not gonna be quick but I'll try to keep some updates and info flowing...

Spacers machined up, cost me 30 bux

So the reason any high powered datsun ends up needing a new rear end? They blow a 'fuse'

[ img ]

I'll start with the diff end first. R180s share the same input spline to the diff so still have the shafts as a weak point

Here's why the gtr centre should be a very hard to break option

R160/80 vs gtr R32 r200

[ img ]

Interesting to note the spline count and the difference between the gtr r200 centre and other r200 centres like the S13 or z31tt r200

It's great to see people working on their own Datsuns and coming up with something new to fit these awesome cars.

im definitely not the first to do this, but ive had these bits stored for probably close to ten years! and hopefully if i use lots of oem bits then if i break anything i can find a replacement easily enough. a lot better than paying through the teeth for an old clutch pack long nose that id have to probably recondition anyway. and no adapters to run cvs, just big beefy oem bits. thanks mr nissan!

Leigh what is the diff rings difference in weights? one looks much thinner than the other
and see why the ae86 japs run alloy plates with thicker rings machined down to save weight

D, not sure I tried to weigh them on my bathroom scales but had no luck. There couldn't be too much in it but reduced weight would be a good thing!

Not much actual progress but I had a dummy fit of the centre and so far so good... I've got a few options on rear cover too. S13, dr30 or gtr. I'm pretty confident this part of the drivetrain will be in tact for many years to come

Nice one. Any incremental weight gain can always be offset by getting more boost to the ground now

Very cool. I agree, I don't think you will need to worry about this diff for a while...

Nice work.
It looks like your using the thicker ring gear from the DR30?
Will you have to machine it down to same thickness as the GTR one to Mate with the pinion?
Also what are your plans for cv shafts and flange type out at the wheel hub?

Thanks
Mick

Cheers
Yeah the thicker ring gear is the one im using because it matches the pinion as its from the same diff. The thinner one from the GTR is from a short nosed diff and would suit that, but the centres are the same. so its essentially just a centre swap.
I'll post some pics of the shafts, but i have some z31t hubs (thicker and higher spline count) and matching flanges as well as the shafts. itll be a hybrid z31t/r32gtr shaft and cv combo
Im running r30 arms so the hubs all just fit without mods
