You'd think that i'd find some sort of repair work on this car that was done PROPERLY so I didn't need to continually fix it up and spend hours doing it. Ahh well... (end of bitch session)
So my complaint comes from the fact that, I was motivated enough to start stripping paint off my guards ready for primer. Started paint stripping them last night, and layer after layer of paint started to remove itself, then high fill, then more paint, then body filler, and more body filler. So this morning I had enough and took to it with the wire wheel on the grinder, and discovered another textbook panel beating repair job. Awesome.

File comment: That was the rust that extended to almost half way up the guard.

That was then cut out sort of as square as i could get it.
Then the next step was to separate the outter skin, from the inner bracing.

Then the had to cut away the inner part that was rusted out. And a new piece was bent into shape and fitted and welded in.

The next section was bent up to follow the pattern of the sills. Same angles, better than the current guard was I think. Also treated to a heavy coat of cold gal primer.

Then the next straight section was made, this was cut into shape, then had the end folded over so it would look factory. Being 1.1mm gal, it was a little harder to work with, but still came out pretty much dead on. This was then welded into place. The bottom section was also folded over once the top section was in, so to maintain perfect gap. Which I was able to achieve. I also added a bottom section which was rusting out also, and was temped to reinforce the hole that the guard bolt goes onto. But it looked ok, so will assess it later.

I've coated it all in cold Gal because the day just got away from me. I've ground the welds down compared to that pic. And unfortunately i'm not going to be able to escape the fact that i'm going to have to use a bit of body filler to smooth this one out (which i'm relatively pissed off about - I hate body filler). However... Its better than it was before.
