Thanks Nik!

I just need more time, I'm going to try and get out a few nights this week.

Yes will get you over before the blasting trip for some advise and marking out :)

Cheers,

Trent

Looking good trent,
you dont stop do you!
Just wondering what your plan of attack is for surface rust on the underside?
are you going to treat it yourself or get it blasted?
also you are you using for all your bead blasting?

at this rate you'll be done by datnats

cheers

Hey Jono,

Your back!!

No I never stop, LOL every spare second is allocated :) I'd love to get it done however $$$$$ stands in the way so have to pace myself.

As for the blasting I'm not 100% sure for the shell yet, can discuss over a call or in person as I had a "challenging experience" with the person/company I was planning to use. However saying all that, there is a possibility of garnet blasting on all parts, just not the roof and the skin.... I'm not 100% on the plans yet, any feedback out there for blasters in VIC that people can recommend? The plan is though the entire shell will be blasted in some fashion...

I have been using A1 in FTG for small parts and they have been great, I took a whole lot down there tonight which they are blasting and powder coating. Should have it back this week and will post up some pics.

Cheers,

Trent

HAHahahah. Yeah he is a bit of a machine. Anyone that works 14 hour days and then says he needs to work on the datsun is a nutter in my opinion

to my computer..
Kind of pointless without pics

Also i just bought another daily so have been concentrating on that for the last week.

Hi All,

Small updated, picked up the parts from the blasters/power coating today. Great results and will get a few more done over the coming weeks...

- Steering box brace
- Swaybar (Zinc coated as well)
- Dash

Progress is exciting :)

Cheers,

Hi All,

Bit of an update.

I have completely rebuilt the pedal box, The before and after pics of the procedure. The box was dismantled, garnet blasted and re-powder coated. Came up quite well. Every nut and bolt scrubbed and re-greased. New rubbers etc.

The fuel tank has been stripped and is off being powder coated at the moment. I will have it back this week and will post up some pics.

Lots of rust work. I have repaired 2 main sections here. You can see in the pics some rust cut out and also repaired one of the small rails. Little bit more left on it. A huge amount of welding as well. I think I'm 99% done for the stitch welding now :) I really enjoyed that job. I have run out of migshield so will have to grab my 3rd bottle next week. It seems I get about month out of the bottle....

Big thanks to Jono on the forums for hooking me up with a really nice grille and chrome bit under the grille (Not sure what it's called), will get it dipped and prettied up!

Have the Mad Dat engine mounts scheduled to arrive this week as well. The joys of removing the old SR engine mount under the turbo.... There was one bolt directly under the turbo that took a good 45 mins to get off. It was so stupidly tight. I tried every tool I had as well as CRC/WD40 etc.... Anyway some grazed knuckles later and it's off!

Actually although I don't have the front struts I actually have enough bits for a test fit of the engine so that might be high on the list over the xmas break.

All feedback welcome.

Cheers,

Trent

Hi Pedro/All,

I have been working so much lately not a huge amount of spare time.

So list of things I have done in the past 2 weeks, when I did have a spare 15 mins here and there.

- Took the car off the rotisserie, back onto stands and then repaired the rusted out section on the front where the bumper bar mounts up. Had to replace the inner and outer here but came up well.
- The bumper bar mounts front/rear are off getting blasted and powder coated black. Will get them back sometime next week
- I have drilled some 30mm holes in the front of the sills as per Nik's advise so the blaster can get the gun in there and clean out a lot off the mess
- Stripped the paint and remaining sound proofing fluff from the inside of the roof, used the Jono method mixed with a bit of citrus solvent and came up really well
- Removed both the blanking plates from the rear of the sills so the blaster can get the gun in there.
- Holes, Holes & more holes. Filled some in on the passenger kick panel. Approx 30
- I have 1 more door which was blasted (long story with tears in the end) getting fixed at the panel beaters. Oh man it's hard to find a decent blaster in VIC.....
- Unrolled the lips on the rear wheel arches so the blaster can get the gun in there
- Had the fuel tank powder coated which came up a treat. Manually stripped with paint stripper and wire wheel.

Today I have a 4 hour window so might have more of an update later on. I'm in the shed!
- If all goes well I will have the left rear inside quarter panel out by the end of the day and stripped the rear panel of paint!

Cheers,

Trent

Nice progress mate! Its all worth it. Keep going strong. Like the idea's of the holes in the sills for the blaster. I did that on mine too, copied of the man above^^

Hey Nik/Ross,

Thanks. Nik I'm off to China on Tuesday night and will be back the following Monday morning, just a quick trip. Pop around any time before or after :) Would be good to catch up!

I have taken your advise (again :)) and added a bracket between the spare wheel well and rear x-member.

Tidied up some welds and a few more holes were filled. Started to remove the inner panel of the left rear quarter. That job sux, it's been repaired a few times before and there are welds everywhere! I'm about 30% completed and will try and do some more tomorrow.

Cheers,

Trent
