Hi All,

Update from the past few days:

- Repaired the holes where the windscreen wipers go. Will need to make a new blanking plate that sits underneath as the original one was rusted. Came out quite well.
- Fixed the left hand air vent hole. This thing was a really mess. Fiddly job to fix but it’s done
- Also repaired the right hand air vent, this one wasn’t as bad and only needed a 50c piece cut out
- Welded up all the roll cage holes and ground back
- Finished seam welding on a few spots I had missed, thanks Nik ;)
- Next week was supposed to be blasting however with the weather I will wait another week and see how we go then.
- Received a new radio surround from Japan, Mad Dat engine mounts & swaybar links as well.
- I have enough bits now to fit the engine, however I will pick up the radiator and the Intercooler over the next few weeks and start fitting it all up

Cheers,

Trent

Hectic mate. I haven't seen the fresh air vents rusted out before. Nice job on the repair. I ended up drilling a hole near mine so i could weld up the inside rust holes where the bonnet hinges dock. I like your work. Keep going. Getting closer. Once the body work is out of the way the rest will come together really fast.

Thanks Ross,

There was quite a bit of rust there. It was a pain with the air vent hole, my grinder didnt fit to well in the area because of the dash bracket, so most of it was done with the dremmel and about 5>10 of those mini cutting/grinding disks! Anway, very slow but came up well.

I'm off to Ballarat tomorrow to pick up a replacment Sill, stay tuned for the next round of pics ;)

Cheers,

Trent

Great work Trent. Making great progress.
The blanking plate can be made from aluminium. (it wont rust!)
As Ross said, very satisfying putting it all together...

Thanks Nik,

I didn't think of that, good idea! Off to Bunnings later today I think I might be able to gram a small sheet from there.

Cheers,

Trent

Hey Jono,

Yeah I know, probably a good thing, found some more bits I want to do before blasting so I will get it done this week.

I brought the new Sill panel but it looks a bit too big... will need to investigate a bit more when im more awake.

Spoke with Randy tonight, he might have someone so I will keep you posted, I'll go and meet with this guy on Wednesday and also have a few other contacts to try as well.

Started to do some work tonight but one of those nights where everything you do doesnt work, so I have called it quits for today.

Cheers,

Trent

Hi All,

Some new bits arrived today, nothing super exciting. It’s always fun to get goodies though :)

- Some new badges (cart before the horse.....)
- Engine mounts for the MADDAT SR20 conversion
- Blasted, Zinc primed & Powder coated, rear bumper brackets
- Swaybar links
- Intercooler coming this week as well, looking forward to fitting it :) I want 100% stealth with this car so shiny bits are to be kept to a minimum. I'm thinking about powdercoating the end tanks and then a light spray of black paint over the core. There is a lot of varying opinions on the web for painting an IC. Thoughts?, can of worms?
- New radio surround (Last week)

Cheers,

Trent

Leave the intercooler as is. Paint will only flake off after time from the aluminium.
You can hardly see it under the grille anyway. Some 'hints' of intercooler are better IMHO.

with the cooler, I was going to do a decent coat of good quality etch primer on the alloy on one side. THen spray that one side satin black. And leave the other side fresh in case you want to turn it around later.
