Been slow going lately although we did get the rear end painted recently as it had a few little rust spots

And a couple more of the boot

Beautiful build, well done.

Is the blue a standard Datto colour?

It reminds me of a Holden colour similar to this actually, don't think it is a Datsun colour. We kept it though as it kind of looks like a colour from the 70's which was close enough

A few updates

First up is the fender mirrors. Using the metal hole punch worked a treat, just drill a pilot hole, put the hole punch bolt through and tighten and you get a perfect circle in the metal with no warping at all. Guards still need to be bolted on

Oil catch can in from the crankcase ventilation. I doubt we'll ever see a drop of oil in it but it came with the car when we bought it

Yes that is an original L16 rocker cover I bought off a member here years ago now cleaned up and painted blue. The motor is a worked L20 but it's nice to use these original covers rather than the Nissan OHC stamped ones

Getting closer to the end now

Where did you get your rubber boot seal from? I need to get a new one, and yours looks pretty new. Plenty of places on flee-bay, but never too sure of quality.

From memory I think we got it from Rare Spares mate. Could have been from FleaBay too, bought a few things from there, it's usually okay, Gumtree I don't trust

Bonnet now on

And the dash is all completed and everything works

What's not apparent in the pictures is how nice the driver position is now. In my first 1600 my knees would sit either side of the wheel with the seat all the way back. Given I am only 176cm or 5'10" I can't imagine how uncomfortable they could be for taller people. What we did was make some seat rail extensions out of steel so now it sits a further 8cm back meaning your butt is now almost at the B pillar. Much nicer

The other thing is the gear leaver, it feels like I am in a rowboat compared to my Mazda6!

Very minor quick update. Datsun is currently at the mechanics getting some last checks before the RWC. Some things we missed were

Needed a vented battery box for the boot mounted battery
Breather hose for the fuel (I think) was running into the boot
Needs a catalytic converter (I know WTF right as it's an L20B). Reason is because the engine number matches to an S1 (or S2 I forget) Bluebird our mech says it has to have a cat. Apparently that is the letter of the rules!
Some wiring corrections
Rear retractable seatbelts (we'll fit those, I think Datsport do them?)
