Well it took longer than expected but after a few skinned knuckles and some choice dropping of the F-bombs between Dad and me at various points we got the motor in. I'm sure most people make this stuff look easy but I've never put a motor in before and the last time Dad did it was probably in the 70's so we went at it pretty slow and steady. Getting that spline through the clutch plate and connected is such a pain in the butt with all the raising, lowering tilting etc.... makes me glad I don't do this stuff for a living! Okay lets get started Maybe those extractors and Weber intake trumpets should come off first We had the flywheel lightened, you can't tell from the picture here though It was at this point that we realised the bottom part of the engine plate was missing I'll have to go and hunt it in at my father-in-laws farm, unless some kind soul has one they'd like to sell to me Annnnnnd it's in Now we just need to bolt up the alternator, oil switch, connect all the hoses, run the fuel lines, get a new radiator and maybe we can get something going in a few months all going well And if anyone has that bottom engine plate part that they want to sell I'm all ears!

The plate between the motor and gearbox is normally one piece, extending right to the bottom of the bell housing. Without pulling out the motor or gearbox and removing the flywheel, you'll need to find another plate, cut it to fit the gap.

I thought it was meant to be one plate! Crap! Oh well at least if i cut it I can still slide it up between the engine and gearbox as the little plugs only get used by the top part of the plate Anyone got an engine plate lying around they don't need?

You have a two piece sandwich plate. I had one also, and I also lost the lower piece and unable to source one, I just made a temple for the lower piece out of cardboard cut it to shape, then cut the shape out of 1mm sheet metal. A lot easier than trying to fit a one piece one with the engine installed.

Yep that's it. Did some of them come in two pieces? Must be a reason why, it would seem weird that anyone would intentionally cut it...

Okay cool, hopefully I will track one down soon Couple more pictures, Dad had the day off today so he kept himself busy Hoses and starter motor connected Dizzy and carbies back on with the K&N filters. You can't see it but the exhaust headers are back in as well

In other news the cold weather has kept Dad at home so he's done a bit of work Spatter painted the boot interior Refitted the fuel tank, neck, breather tube after it was cleaned up Added a 510 logo'd boot back that he's been working on for a while

The 2 piece sandwich plate is probably for an auto as you need to remove the lower section to undo the bolts that connect flex plate to torque converter.

A few more updates, reminds me now that I need to order the damn fuel pump and regulator - been too busy at work these days Dad has finished off the boot. Made up some MDF so now it's nice and boxed off Rocker cover now with a bit of primer. Even though it's an L20B I really wanted the "Datsun 1600" cover on the engine as opposed to the other two kinds Some minor rust repairs, nothing too major
