G'Day All,
I have really enjoyed reading thru all the other build threads here on OZDAT and I thought it was about time I started my own.
I have in the past owned four 1600’s but never had enough funds to do any major work, except for a 69 model a friend and I brought which was a painted shell with a 12 point roll cage. We got this car to the point of being a rolling concern but unfortunately I had to move for work and we sold it in 2004.
Now that I am going thru my mid-life crisis or what my daughters call Meno-Pause, I thought why not get myself a Datto.
After a bit of searching I purchased the 1600 back in January 2015.
My plan for the 1600 is a ground up rebuild and SR20DET conversion with Datsport installation kit. I just want a nice clean 1600 with a bit of sting in its tail to have some fun in.

I started to strip the 1600 down and set it up on my homemade rotisserie and putting aside parts I would not need for sale.
Started removing the underbody deadener and soon grew tired of the hours spent, so I ended up getting most of the 1600 wet blasted by a friend of mine Simon from Revive Blasting.

Started Seam welding now that all the underbody deadener has been removed. Then applied primer to all the area’s that were wet blasted to stop surface rust and now time to start on rust repairs.

I thought it was about time to fire up the half cut but the fuel pump I was trying to use wasn’t supplying enough pressure. I purchased a BA Falcon fuel pump assembly off Ebay and modified the original fuel tank to suit. Connected it up to the half cut and she purred like a kitten.

Next was the gearbox as I noticed some water coming out the rear housing, I removed the gearbox from the half cut and pulled it down and found no damage from the water and the gearbox was in good condition. I cleaned up, fitted new front and rear seals, filled with some oil and put aside.

Great stuff!!

Makes me realise that I need to organise my mid-life crisis a bit better. I thought just filling the spare garage bay with a Datto would be enough. It's not. More Datto things needed... :)

Looking good. I remember this. I'll be following. Might hit you up for some parts off your half cut once you finish working out what you want to use off it!
