For a while the clutch has been slipping at high RPM and when any slight pressure is applied to the clutch (for example resting your foot on it about to change gears)
Anyway so first i went hunting for a new clutch and it turns out we had a NOS (new old stock) one out the back of our autoparts store! Perfect.
I was advised by Craig (Tokyo-2u) that i should change the spigot bearing while the gearbox was out and the clutch was out, so i went ahead and ordered a new spigot bearing (exedy PB-22) and a clutch alignment tool (exedy DCT-01)
This was my first time replacing a clutch or removing a gearbox for that matter, so i had a read of the manual and got some more advice from people and then decided to have a go.
I jacked the car up on stands and started undoing bolts, after removing the 4 gearbox bolts, 2 starter bolts and the crossmember bolts, i pulled out the gearbox and rolled it out of the way with the jack i had it sitting on. first of all i changed the throwout bearing then decided i would remove the spigot bush... after about an hour of trying the "pack full of grease and use pressure to pop it out" method i reverted to the old screwdriver and hammer trick... had it out in on a couple of minutes!
Anyway heres a picture of the old clutch.
Was a bit rusty and some of the pins on the clutch housing were slightly bent, the friction plate was pretty warn down too, i would almost say that its the original clutch!
After torquing up the clutch housing.
Everything went back together with no worries and i took it for a drive, problems solved! less gearbox noise (new oil) and the clutch is very nice now, i can actually spin the wheels now haha rally pics coming soon Imago
Heres a couple of pics.
