Hey All! Just gonna show off my silver Stanza SSS which I am currently doing up to put back on the road. My Dad bought it new in 1981, it's very original and he hasn't messed around with it very much (only put in factory aircon himself, and done a custom cooling/front air dam setup and removed the SSS stickers from the side. For some reason.). He gave it to me for my 17th birthday a couple of months ago to do up, which I am. I am rebuilding the engine as part of the school project (and hotting it up a little bit :D), however I also intend to get it on the road if possible. Thankfully there is no rust other than minor surface rust under the back, and the body is pretty straight. All I have to worry about is brakes, 2 tyres, suspension, and possibly some of the electrics (part of dads cooling setup).

Gah... I uploaded some pictures, but none of them are showing up... Does anyone have any idea as to why?

Ok, I'll try again. I must apologise in advance as well, this is my first attempt at a build thread... (Which this is, but I didn't make clear in my intro - which was written in a bit of a rush  ). Anyway, this is what the old girl looked like when I (officially) took possession of her, just after my 17th birthday.

Also, what do you mean by that unfamilia? (legit confusion, I've never heard that saying before...)

Anyway. This is the engine coming out.

Cheers mate. Yeah, there was an interesting amount of stuff through the engine... I couldn't figure out whether it was metal or plastic or what. I also found a couple of zipties in the sump, along with the usual sludge... :?

Sorry I haven't updated in a while, being real busy what with the HSC and buying more Stanzas/parts... Anyway, here's where I'm up to - I hope you fellas like lotsa pictures :)

Anyway, while I was waiting for some parts, I fit a new rear bumper.
[ img ]

Reground 180B cam and new springs :D
[ img ]

Painted the engine crossmember (whatever it's called?)
[ img ]

Got my block back from the machine shop
[ img ]

And quickly proceeded to make it pretty again
[ img ]
[ img ]

Then it was time for the crankshaft and pistons to go in
[ img ]
[ img ]
[ img ]

Custom made exhaust valves (because I bought Stellite inlet valves but could only find standard exhaust valves, so this was my only option). Totally worth the money and the waiting, these things are beautiful!!
[ img ]
[ img ]

Valves and springs installed
[ img ]

A very shaved down A87 head... Hopefully this along with some porting work, around 0.5' lift, my cam, my carburettors and my exhaust, the old girl will finally have a little bit of extra get up and go...
[ img ]
[ img ]

Then I had to reinstall the cam towers which someone in the past had removed... What a c**t of a job that was, getting the cam to spin freely again and everything!!!!
[ img ]

Head, cam, timing chain all installed... Looking good, if I say so myself :)
[ img ]
[ img ]
[ img ]

And that's almost where I'm up to currently... I'm just waiting for a couple of small things before it's ready to go back in, but I'll let the pictures do the talking when I have some more...

Nice work. What pistons did you use and compression ratio. Looks like will have a bit more comp with those pistons and shaved head.

Yeah, hopefully. The pistons are just NOS lazorlite pistons, 30" oversize, that have been ceramic coated to theoretically keep the pistons cooler and prevent detonation. I'm not 100% sure on final compression ratio, as I was unable to find out how much the head gasket compresses - but using the uncompressed height of the head gasket, compression ratio is 10.9:1.

Oh hell yeah. BP 98, valve saver (even though I've got hardened valves and seats, it can't hurt - especially with the valve lift I've got), and some octane booster (just to make sure) are what I'll be running it on... Lets just say, I don't think I'll be using the old girl as a daily driver :P

I see the timing chain tensioner is extended. Critical that you adjust the chain tension.
I set all my engines so the tensioner is sitting on the housing.

For a performance engine, Max extension of the tensioner= 1.0mm
At high Revs the chain will ride up the cam sprocket causing the valve timing to retard.
This may result in exhaust valves hitting pistons.
I also note that the rocker adjusters seem rather high.
I take it that you have checked the rocker wipe?
Also I see no valve recess in the pistons, have you checked the piston to valve clearance?
