Probably a money factor involved. Any reason you picked the LS1 over a blown 527 :) ?

l28 with triple webers would have been worth a couple of grand? Ls1 should be had for about that money. Of course it will cost more on top of that to get it running (with or without efi), but they are very common, great aftermarket support, weigh next to nothing (comparitively) and make good power easily.
There was a 240z with mafless tuned ls1+6speed for sale for 10k on pf a couple of months ago, but i couldnt get the cash together :(

edit: guy here in canberra was recently selling a LS1 complete with loom and 6speed for $2k

Most of my mates and work colleges into Holden's seem to think LS1's are weak in comparison to the older iron block V8's. I wouldn't know, as for the price 2K is what we had on our LS1 and we couldn't move it, but i put that down to there being a lot of dreamers out there.

Any more pics of this beast or even a vid, so we can hear the V8 rumble coming from such a nice skyline?

This model handles amazing with the L so with an old cressida v8 or ls1 it would be an animal.
Magic all round bar the square guard mirrors. Top project though, Its going to upset many late cars
and holden owners will be close to suicide if they are kept in the dark.
