hey.. been looking through here for a while but only just bothered signing up

anyway, here's my car..
its a 77 C210 skyline.
completely origional except for a well hidden new head unit.

anyone got any suggestions on what to do to the engine?
i want to keep the L24, but i've heard that the head off the c210 is nowhere near as good as the one from the r30.
also, what else can be done to get a bit more out of these engines,
i'm guessing just the usual cam/carbies/head work.. etc...

some pic's

Nice car, probably the best condition c210 coupe i've seen.

P.S I've got a R30 long motor (head + block) out the front of my house, was running when removed, free to you if you pick it up.

Im on the lower north shore in sydney, PM if you want it.

Cheers

Martin

Nice and clean.

RB heads wont fit on a L block if that what you were thinking.

What head has it got? (it cast on the side of the head, near #1 spark plug)

Yeah, cam, extractors, head work will increase power.

L20ET gear can be adapted to turbo the L24.

or you can do an RB turbo engine swap.

Just depends on how much you want to spend, and whether you want to do it leagaly.

the car is in origional condition right now (aside from a few dings here and there..) which is why i want to keep the origional engine in it. i'll have a look and see what type of head it is tomorrow.. im actually not too sure.

RB would be great, But i wanna keep it old school cool 8)
triple webbers sound great until i start thinking about the fuel bill :(

Also, i forgot to ask.
what can be done with c210's Suspension and brake wise?
i know the R30 disc rear end bolts in... but after that, what about the front struts + brakes + etc...

Is the black tyre mark coming from the back of your car in the last pic made by your car?
A rb would sit very nicely between the strut towers.

E30 is a high compression, small(er) port and small(er) valve head - designed for good low down torque and economy.

swapping to a larger valve head like an E31 is hard due to the Zed boys pushing the prices up (Craig... :!: ) and the E88 is a lower compression, later model head from memory - off the R30.

you could always use any plethora of L26/L28 head options like N series, P series etc but if you want to keep it TRULY L24 the E series heads are all you can use from an originality point of view.

my advice for a stylish and simple daily is keep the E30 head, find some dome top twin SUs and manifold (i have 1.5in SUs that i think the sale has fallen thru on if you need them - i have no deposit anyways), use a shorty factory cast exhaust manifold (you may already have one - i have one if you don;t that you can have for nothing bar freight cost) with a good 2in exhaust and a mild grind cam (i think crow still do a 28/68 for the L series).

if you can't get twin SUs, have a new 32/36DGV or 34ADM weber jetted to suit.

these mods will make it shine and give you a fair but more power for about $1200 outlay using quality gear and a new carb / rebuilt SUs.

if the whole engine needs attention, rebuilds are cheap but make sure you go to a quality workshop.

if you can put your location in your profile it would help us to help you more accurately.

a little bit of an update....

i now have a set of reco'd 240k struts in the garage + a set of hilux 4 spot calipers. a little bit of a brake upgrade, and the new shocks + springs should fix the handleing a bit.

also a electronic dizzy and polished rocker cover.

hopefully it'll stop raining some time so i can put it all in!

Nah mate. there was a good looking e31 on ebay last week. sold for around $50.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 4613859997

The guy listed it at $25. Maybe he should have started it a litle higher.
Guess he didnt realise how much some people are prepaird to pay for them.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 8038873072

The e31 and e88 had the same size valves and were both stock for the 240z. Early 240z had the higher compression e31, later zeds had the e88 with lower compression due to the larger combustion chamber in the head.

260z also had the e88 but with bigger valve.

theres some good info on heads here

does anyone know where to get the oldschool jap style c210 body kit bits and pieces from...
e.g.. the front spoiler bit, and just other little random bits.

i know of a few sites, like pitroad, they pretty much have every panel for a c210 in either fiberglass or carbon fiber.. crazy.
but i havn't been able to find anything in english...

Got my car back from the mechanics today after 2 weeks.

Had a little bit of head work done.
Bigger intake valves, intake ports opened up, Reground cam (mild)
runs alot better than it did before, But now its time for a bigger exhaust, Extractors, and a bigger carby.

Possibly Twin SU's.

All depends on what its going to cost though.

Hopefully some more updates soon =]

Yahoo auctions Japan maybe, but the language barrier is a problem.

Theres some Aussies living in Japan selling parts on ebay, but the price is pretty steep, when comapared with how much they go for on yahoo auctions.
