I might as well post this here as i am trying to hunt for parts. I recently bought this beauty (or beast?) for very cheap. It has mint(ish) interior and working engine but thats where the good news end. Paint is horrible and worn off, front and rear wheel arches are quite bad and both rocker panels (i dont know the correct term) are rusted. Good news is that body is solid underneath. Its a late 1979 model and has SD22 diesel in it. It has been used as a taxi and god knows how many kilometers it has behind. Rear bumper is utterly and completely destroyed by rust, but im determined to find a "new" one cause i want this monster back on the road. They brought couple of thousand of these here but 95% has disappeared, thanks to salted roads and moist weather. (and new legistlation, trying to get rid of all the old cars)

At first im going to use its original engine but im putting a spare L24 in it as soon as i get all the parts for it and finish rebuilding it, dont really know what propeller shaft to use, does the L-series tranny fit right in etc etc. Lots of questions for you guys in the coming months. This forum seemed the most appropiate cause you guys have most Cedrics in the whole world

You can pm me if you got some spare parts for sale, im sure i can arrange the shipping somehow... im not Aussie... im from Finland

Nice carbies on the bench!

We never had the diesel option in Australia so don't know a whole lot about fitting them in, but you can get a standard Nissan L-series motor and gearbox and install them easily. Any parts like engine mounts etc if you are struggling to find, we may be able to sort you out with Australian bits...

Thanks man, those are triple SK/OER carburators for my 240Z, planning to make that baby purr like a tiger lol. If the Z's engine mount wont fit in to Cedric, then yeah i need to find proper mounts. Im quite sure they wont as the front suspension is completely different. Its real pain in the ass trying to find proper parts for Cedric, you can find engine parts but its a no-go with anything else.

Id keep it diesel unless you guys pay too much for that fuel up there
The SD22 can maybe be replaced with the SD33T with a better snail too like in this vid
here the driver is only boosted it to 10psi and more to come once run in
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vA2h39C8nI
from 5.35 you can see the overtaking torque and sounds like a big rig!

here already at 18psi

Id love to keep it diesel, but the legistlation here is just absolutely crazy. You'd have to pay crazy ass taxes for diesel car if compared to petrol engine, so there is no point driving a "holiday diesel" car. I have -04 D4D Corolla as my daily driver and i have to pay around.. 600ausd tax yearly for driving it. For petrol engines tax is about 100 bucks/year. Also SD33 sounds more like a truck or tracktor haha :) Diesel fuel is cheaper than petrol but not much, everything here is too expensive. Except old Datsuns, you'll get them 2 for the price of one.

Got a new(ish) rear bumper, a SLIGHT improvement when compared to old one.

Old: http://sdrv.ms/1gaVWEF
New: http://sdrv.ms/1gaW7zC

Body needs to be stripped to bare metal, there is rust, more than i have ever handled. Time will tell what kind of crapper this car will be eventually, as my experience is limited to fixing engine/driveline etc. Got zero exp on bodywork.

The ones in Australia are generally pretty-well rust-free compared to a lot of non-Japanese cars, fingers crossed your climate isn't too bad that it has become a problem.

The replacement bumper looks good!

Hi, I have also this Q 330 Datsun Cedric or Gloria, year of 1979. In Indonesia she has call sign as Datsun Sena or 220c.
I bought her about half years ago from local collector. With minimum spare part changing such as engine mounting, fly wheel, 4 head nozzle (need to replace, already make a white smoke). Top gasket, (here call as cylinder head packing set).
Lucky me I can find easily for this engine mounting, the price is about $ 95 AUS left and right (couple).
I made custom packing set for this four cylinders, changing due to hole of oil infected of water distribution, her radiator is oily.
Fly wheel gear was broken due to imprecisely dynamo starter, (it hit by edge of dynamo starter)
Solution? it Just remanufactured at some local welding company.
Clutch plate is easy to refurbish in Jakarta, just remove current plate then install new one at local workshop.
Last but not least, I also change four nozzle of injector, my mechanic change those using Isuzu Panther part, ofcourse we need some calibration for them.
I attached my Gloria and her part which changed.
Cheers

The beast is alive. I managed to start that bugger up, with loud bangs and puffs of smoke it started. Only problem was at first i was not able to shut it down LOL. These diesel versions apparently do not switch off from the ignition switch but from the "force feed knob" or whatever its called, it controls the fuel flow. You can even set your idle speed from inside the cabin trough that knob, quite innovative! Too bad the clutch master cylinder is crap, cannot get any pressure even i have new slave cylinder. Too bad the weather is also very poor so i cannot work outside, so i'll have to move it to my cold and cramped garage till spring. (got 3 garages, 2 of them are semi-heated, 1 is cold and small)

Finally got the new engine for my Ced. I will rebuild it during this winter, car stays at separate garage, cause i need to have a slot for my daily driver in "main garage" thanks to cold weather (-25C). Also found a new front fender (driver side), now i just need to find rear fenders and things will go smoothly.
