Just as a side thought, are you going to be able to road register this thing?[/quote]

All vehicles originally weighing more than 1100 kg.

Naturally Aspirated - Original weight (kg) x 5.0 = max. capacity in cc’s

Forced Induction - Original weight (kg) x 3.0 = max. capacity in cc’s

I think those figures are current, however its QLD and as long as you find a guy willing to do the modplate you will be sweet. Its illegal to have a 13b turbo in an rx3 however guys are still getting them plated.

I'm very impressed by the steering aspect of this conversion... if successful I think this is a great one-hit upgrade of brakes, column and rack... would you be comfortable with others applying your bracket designs?

Keep up the great work.

Peter.
I have no problem if anybody copies how i have done the steering/brakes etc. Thats what the internet is for. A large amount of how i figured out the steering was from searching the net and combining a lot of other peoples ideas into 1.

However - Dont go straight out and do what i have done just yet. Now that i have got this far with the steering and front hubs, i have figured out some ways it could be better, simpler, and possiby cheaper. Im busy with work for a while but in maybe 3 weeks i should have some time to try my ideas and post a few pics.

Also, while i was at the wreckers looking at steering boxes and suspension, i think i have come up with a way to move/modify the stock steering box to allow a v8, not a nissan, but a lexus at least

I have spoken to a guy that seems keen to do it provided it is all done correctly and safely. fingers crossed...

Plan B is a bit devious, but will work

Plan C is to drive it anyway, then just take it back to NZ where it will go through a cert no worries :)

Hey Ray,
big brakes would have made nightmare steering arms into impossible steering arms. I need to give Don the hurry up, and maybe black Pete with my top arms also.
Why dont you drag your cedric out of the shed? have you chased up a new turbo yet? you might as well scab the turbo off my other car. You only have a few months till calving!

Did some work this weekend fitting a hilux diff. the stock h190 is strong enough, but the lowest ratio they come in is 3.9:1. the stock vh45 diff is 3.5 and i want to be as close to that as possible

First choice was r31 skyline wagon borg warner but, right size, and lots of ratios, but the only axles the right length are 4 stud. I got a hilux diff from the wreckers for 100 bux. i can get a 3.5 or 3.6 ratio lsd center for not too bad a price and they are strong as.

i cut the mounts off the h190 diff and cleaned up the hilux diff. I put the mounts on the leaves and sat the diff on top. once it was at the same angle i welded the mounts on.

The axles are massive compared to the h190 ones

Sitting in the car.

now i need to decide on brakes. i think i will keep the hilux ones as it will take lots of work to fit discs! and also order a recond lsd center with 3.58 ratio

Good work!

I can't believe the size of the Hilux axles bro, they look larger than the ones from the Ford 9 inch diff.

Would really be best to get them on a lathe and neck them down for most of the length to bring the unsprung mass down a bit.

Looking at the five stud axle flange... I'm guessing this is a 2WD Hilux diff? So the stud pattern already matches? How about the length?

Looks like its going to be a tonne of fun when its sorted! Massive credit to you for taking on such a massive conversion.

Do you still have the 280c alloy wheels that were on it in the first pics? I'm after the centre caps if you want to sell them.I'll be your best friend.
