I am now the proud owner of a 1966 Nissan Cedric Custom 6. I was very lucky to pick up this car, it has been in the same family its whole life, the original owner sold to her great niece who sold it to me. The car spent most of its life living in Mildura and in its later years was only driven to lawn bowls once a week!

Was also featured in a 2006 book called "On the road again" by Kevin Norbury, which i have purchased and am waiting for to arrive in the mail. It also came with the service manual which is a good read.

The dash is in amazing condition, probably the best part of the car.
I have never owned a car of this era. It is powered by an almighty J20 6-cylinder 2.0 litre engine which is extremely rare and essentially a J13 with 2 extra cylinders, transmitted by a column shift auto which means a bench seat, perfect sunday cruiser!

Boasts features such as a brake booster, radiator overflow tank, twin horns, windscreen washer sack and an inspection light, that's just in the engine bay!
I assume this was designed as some sort of limo or upmarket taxi if you will. The interior has a dimmable dome lamp, "anti-dazzle rearview mirror", rear map lights, lights that come on when you open the door to light up your path and also separate cigarette lighter / ashtray / radio controls for people sitting in the rear seats. All 4 doors have triangular vent windows which you can open separately also.

This car really has so many features that are hard to believe were available in the 60's.
Although being registered until the start of this month, the car has not been a daily driver for many years so there are some fuel issues and the car is not currently running. Could apparently be due to rust in the petrol tank which i will inspect and go from there.
Plans are basically to club register it and leave it exactly as it is. This is a piece of nissan/datsun history and i love it!

Yeah its a lovely car.
Nah havent christened it yet, was going to see if you wanted to come and join in and be part of it?

Got part numbers today for new filters and plugs etc, turns out the car is running an electronic fuel pump at the moment and the wire has been cut (wonder if this is one of the reasons it wasnt running haha.
Will service the engine and then flush the fuel system and try and get it running.

Would love some white walls!

So the maiden voyage was a success!!
Okay not so much...
we drove it to the servo to fill up the tyres and then to the car wash to give it probably the first wash in many many years.

The Cedric drove very well and basically absorbed the road, handling somewhat like a limousine.. being that you could barely feel speed bumps and the turning circle is quite large. The power was quite lacking but this could be partially due to the lack of fuel reaching the carby...

So the car has an electric facet fuel pump and when i got the car i just let it pump all of the fuel out through the fuel line. Obviously upon driving it, the remaining sediment has lifted and blocked the fuel filter that is under the car infront of the fuel pump... as the pump eventually stopped feeding the carby and started making an unhealthy noise.
This resulted in us pushing it approximately 300 meters up the road... yes up the road, it was unfortunately not downhill and the cedric weighs alot more than i wish it did

Looking forward to getting it sorted as it was very very fun to drive!!

Quote of the night: "I'm looking forward to pushing the RX-2 - it'll be a walk in the park!"

Admittedly it was a great success until that point. And I don't think I've ever noticed a speed hump as little as I did in this car.

Pull the tank and take it to be cleaned out properly.
I had same drama with falcon.
Clean the lines out too.
Good stuff travel but next time take a man with you to push the car, not a goth chick

I wonder if the crank in these was fully counterweight and 7 bearing mains?

I love the thought there was an OHV six smaller than a holden grey 138 OHV 6 and that its made 49hp more with 200 cc less

"J20 is a 2.0 L (1,994 cc) engine. It produces 109 hp (81 kW) and was used in the 1965-73 Nissan Cedric"

Not sure, there really isnt much information at all on these engines... I hope nothing goes wrong!!!

Makes only 3hp less than a holden red 173, which was 2.8 litres (2,835 cc) in the same era, hmmm nissan knew what they were doing......
