Hi guys

This is my introduction post on this board and I'll use this event to show my latest restoration to the public - 1977 Datsun 260C Sedan.

She was my first ever car when I was 18 back in 1992. Undergone a $40,000 restoration.

New bare metal paint, new badges, rubbers, glass, chrome, new interior (carpets, vinyl, linings) everything restored including the tape deck, electric antennae, demister, radio, clock, etc.

Brand new B45's commissioned straight from Simmons (yes, they still exist). Original number plates.
I had the guts of the old seats transferred to the new seats so the old Datsun smell was retained.

The rubbers came from Thailand, the badges from Kuwait, glass from here in Australia.

Cars are my hobby and I have a collection of 13 of them, mostly exotics. But I still love driving the Datsun every chance I get. I particularly like taking it to the McDonalds drive-through and then eating on the side of the road just like when I was 18 :D

Apologies for the poor quality phone camera pics.

Gorgeous! Paint looks like glass, can't wait to see it in the flesh. I think some Japanese wheels would set it off, but still love the Simmons. Keen to hear about the other 12 cars though!

Awesome car! Start a members rides thread for it. It's good that you've managed to hang on to the same car for this long. Not many people would let a Datsun into their exotic car collection.

I noticed you're just up the road from me as well. So I'll keep an eye out for it - perhaps at the local McDonalds?

I still have the original wheels/hubcaps, but the car was rebuilt to be exactly the way I used to have it when I was 18.

Emotionally, I am very attached to the car, as one gets to their first car.

Part of my man cave:

Are you accepting adoptions at all? I promise to do all my chores.

Forget adoptions, how about a job?

Note: I have split this topic out of the Classic Japan 2014 discussion to its own topic.

Awesome restoration...very impressive
As I'm part way through my restoration of a 260C coupe is there a chance you could give some tips re the interior restoration?
Like I'd be keen to hear how you restored the wood door inserts. Mine are ok but the chrome around them is peeling.
After seeing your car I don't know if I'm motivated or demotivated as I don't know if I can reach the quality of your car :-)
My car is currently bare metal and being finished off at the panel shop
Cheers

The chrome around the wood is just chrome peel. I just had new chrome wrap put on.

OK thanks
I tried wrapping it myself previously but wasn't satisfied so now have some chrome pinstriping tape to try.
Was goingto wrap a brushed metal wrap over the wood grain but seeing how good yours looks I may have to reconsider :-)

One thing I learnt with DYI jobs - unless you are a professional, they are never as good as what the professional can do

True to some extent but then it wouldn't be my restoration.
Some jobs (emphasise some) I can do better than a professional because I can afford to spend more time on it.
Part of my restoration will be enjoying my achievement (or lack of it  ) at the end

Spotted you about 5 minutes ago in the Lambo.. Blue sticks out, but so did the exhaust note...
location omitted for privacy!
