I have owned this car for about 5 years now. When i first got it, it had 4 wheel drums, stock L16 and 5 speed, 13" stockies and managed a 16.1 1/4 mile. Breaking a couple teeth in the spider gears that day at the drags let me to do the following mods over the next five years.
Disc brake H190 S3 Bluebird diff with a yet to be installed genuine Nismo Detroit locker, R32 GTS-T 4 pot callipers and rotors up front, all braided brake lines, Koni damper adjustable shocks front and rear, lowered springs made for front, 16x6.5 ANZ wheels with 205/45/16, CA18DET 5 speed box modified to suit L series, Extreme clutch, L16 block, rebuilt L18 internals, chrome rings, V91 head with mild porting, match port both inlet + exhaust manifolds, oversized stainless steel inlet + exhaust valves, cast turbo manifold from L20 turbo diesel, S15 T28R turbo, custom injection manifold, RX7 non-turbo injectors, Bosch motorsport pump and Bosch pre-pump, surge tank and filter in boot, 75mm throttle body, EMS Stinger ver.4 computer, 60-2 trigger wheel ignition system (distributorless), gilmer drive pulley kit, 3" front mount intercooler, 3" exhaust with twin rear stainless mufflers, and once up and running and tuned properly am considering NOS.
VC tail lights have been removed and disposed of and will be replacing with round LED lights that will look similar to original but will be flush mounted to body, custom aluminium radiator, and many many more other smaller mods.

thanks for the offer but will have to refuse, too much of my own blood, sweat, and tears gone into it and would always regret selling it if i did. But will take that as a compliment.

Your 1600 looks pretty sweet though.
Dummy fitted intercooler and radiator and looks awesome.

Wow, I didn't realise the fairlady's came with L series engines - is that the case with all of them, or just particular year models? Forgive my ignorance, but what kind of kerb weight do one of these things have? Can't be much - any engine mods you make to the L series would probably net some serious performance gains given the light weight, yeah?

Also, is this the car that maxwell smart pulls up in outside the headquarters in the old tv show?

Nope, L-series is a later "conversion".

Fairlady's used a few engines over the years - G15, R16 and U20. G15 and R16 are pushrod motors, and the U20 is OHC.

The U20 had a factory option of twin Solex carbs (similar to twin webbers, and most if not all Australian delivered cars I've seen had them), had a "hot" cam and other engine mods and produced 150hp. The road tests attribute it with a top speed of 127 mph (well over 200kph).

I don't know specific weight, but they do have a full chassis underneath them which may make them a bit heavier than they look ?

And Max pulls up in a Sunbeam Tiger - a Sunbeam Alpine (originally 4 cyl) with a Ford 289 V8 inserted into it from the factory.

Thanks for sorting that out for me Dave, you seem to know a little about Fairlady's. Gross weight is 1070kg for the 1500, hoping to make atleast 150kW at the wheels on about 15psi and should eventually run a high 12? Not bad for a nearly 40yo L series motor. No not GetSmart car but would rather people get it confused with a Sunbeam than an MG any day. I hate those 2 letters! Original motor was a G15 but had L16 in it from the day i bought it.

I've wanted one for probably 20 years, ever since seeing one with a U20 in a car sales yard way back then. I've come close to buying a few since then but there's always been some reason I didn't, ranging from lack of money, lack of garage space, lack of permission from the wife  , etc.

I will get one sooner or later - I've got workshop manuals, factory spare parts manuals, brochures, everything bar the actual car  . I even finally got to drive one a few months back.

Don't know if you've seen my yellow one i have listed in the forums for sale and is also on ebay with a lower starting price. Do you have a workshop manual and/or parts catalogue for 1500. Am after these.

Yep, I've seen your yellow one

Have been discussing it with the missus. She doesn't like the colour  , but its exactly what I want ( a '64 model with the 3rd seat ). We'll see......

I'm pretty sure I've got a spare parts manual for a 1500. I wouldn't want to sell it but could photocopy / scan it if you wanted ? I've also got the Clymer workshop manual, but can't remember if it covers the 1500 ? I'll have a look.

EDIT: Just had a look, and I have the Datsun Sports 1500 Parts Catalogue, Publication number C-019 by the Nissan Motor Company of Tokyo. Still haven't found the clymer workshop manual.

Let me know if you want me to photocopy or scan to a pdf for you.
