Bah, its a datsun, I say go with the true spirit of the car and do what-ever the frig you want with it, enjoy it, learn, and do so on a good budget.

Stock 240zs are slow, don't handle overly well, look funny (high and small rims), and not particularly reliable.

For my part, my US zed will hopefully be getting a VH41 conversion at some point.

Dave

quick update.

Nothing happening yet..... oh well soon

Still in the planning/Money finding stage

and it isn't a 1974, It is a production 1971 first register in aust 1974. So technically it is a 1971.

Thinking about LPG as well because petrol is getting so frigging expensive

dont put chev boat anchor crap in a z.
rb engines are cheap, easy to install and have good drivability and power. You couldnt have a better conversion

so if i kill you i get 20 years, trhen reduced to 10 so the car will actually appreciate for a further 10 yrs whilst im inside.... sounds fair to me.

matching numbers of ANYCAR regardless of its miniscule origins let alone one of some value must not be fu%ked wit hif it is >30yrs old.

like your is. hell why not garage it, leave it, search for a bucket of rust 260 2+2 like someone said and molest that?, nothing wrond with modding a 240z, just one that is matching no's and in such tidy condition (from the photo it looks - to those in the trade- an easy resto')

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

haha i think its funny he wants to run a nugget 8, but is now worried about petrol prices.

it sounds like you dont really have the funds to be playing the Z game yet

im waiting till i can afford to own a Z, but seeing i still got 2 years of uni, i bet they will appreciate much quicker than my wages will and ill never get one....

i personally would run l28et, or if i needed more power, run an FJ or RB
i like the FJ option, as you can still make huge power without cutting the front of the car up to run a cooler, keep it very stealth and pleasant to look at without irreversible damage to an excellent original car

I reckon if you were prepared to get creative there would be ways of running a fmic in the zed with a cross-flow orientation without cutting into things. I understand that the RB series engine conversion can also be done using a 200zr rear sump which would negate the need to modify or replace the front x-member. You would have to run ECU wiring through the firewall - dunno if you can avoid cutting the firewall for that.

But as long as you have somewhere to store the original motor etc you should be able to get any of the high-powered straight sixes in there without doing anything irreversible to the body.

Sorry but

Can't you find a 260z 2+2 to butcher and sell the 240z to someone who will restore her to original.

Not enough 240z's in Perth.
I have to agree... Not about the perth thing but the originality of it.

240's are getting very rare and as yours is the S30Z 2 seater it's almost non existant in some places... I'd have to suggest an L28 or something like that...

I think a L28 stroked to 3.1 would be nice maybe some EFi.
